TheEngineering Department is responsible for ensuring all equipment related to thescanning of Pearson examination papers is maintained to the highest level in orderto adhere to the required scanning schedule.
* Purpose: *
TheApprentice Systems Engineer role is to provide support to the EngineeringDepartment which will involve maintenance and repair of high speed imagescanners and other equipment such as conveying equipment, paper trimmers,compressors and extractor system.
* KeyAccountabilities: *
Providesupport to the Engineering Department which will involve the following dutiesrelating to:
_ Scanners _ :
Toperform repair work that includes troubleshooting, isolating and replacingfaulty components, at times working to tight time scales.
Tocarry out routine preventative maintenance.
Toperform functional tests on a variety of electronic and electromechanicalassemblies.
Tocarry out mechanical rebuilding of equipment on a scheduled basis.
Tocarry out fault tracking using the company’s software and hardware systems.
Tocarry out diagnosis of image quality issues using in built software andmaintenance utilities.
Conveyors,trimmers, compressors and extractor:
Toprovide first line support involving mechanical repair work.
Liaisingwith contractors where necessary.
Tocontinually review and make recommendations on how procedures and processes canbe improved.
Tocontribute to ensuring parts stock is appropriate to business needs.
Ensurea high standard of customer service in all tasks
Developand maintain a professional working relationship with internal and externalcustomers
Takeresponsibility for specific areas of the process under the direction ofmanagement
Ensureobjectives are delivered on time, to specification and within budget
Ensurea high quality of verbal and written communication is delivered at all timesand that information is reported accurately
Liaisewith key stakeholders to ensure that tasks are delivered in the most effectiveway and in an efficient manner
Toidentify and contribute to process improvements which improve quality, serviceand reduce cost
Toprovide a customer focused service, ensuring both written and verbalcommunication is clear and concise, and that all communicated information isaccurate
Todevelop and maintain a professional relationship with internal and externalcustomers
* KeyChallenges: *
TheEngineering Department work on a cycle of events which overlap during the year.
Duringbusy periods, the post holder will be expected to work shifts which may be dayor night and could also include weekends or extended hours.
Thenature of the work undertaken is public facing and of a sensitive nature so thepost holder will need to demonstrate a professional and commercial attitudetowards work.
TheEngineering Department is located within the Processing Centre in SouthYorkshire. The work undertaken by the Processing Centre supports all aspects ofdelivery and involves internal and external communication via telephone andemail, therefore excellent communication skills are important.
