Challenges for the Clinical Rehabilitation Specialist:
-Coordinates the various components of the admission process from initial request for consult and insurance verification, through the actual admission and admission justification. Responsible for the timely admissions of appropriate candidates to the Rehab program and insures the continued compliance of Medicare guidelines during the hospital stay. Cross trains with the RN 2/MD-Liaison to assist with gathering information to complete IRF-PAI data.
-Communicates effectively and professionally with internal and external customers. Documents required information according to hospital policy.
-Functions in an organized and time conscious manner. Prescreens all in-house referrals and, whenever possible, outside referrals. Assures that the referral meets the stated Medicare guidelines for admission and that the unit maintains compliance with the 60% rule for exemption status. Follows through on all insurance verifications for preadmission certification and subsequent requests for extensions or continued stays.
-Presents self in a professional manner.
-Actively works with physicians, their offices, and case managers in other area hospitals and health care facilities to improve admission process.
-Acquires and maintains current knowledge pertinent to nursing practice in Rehabilitation, including the use of Medicare guidelines and the current status of the patient to advise the physicians when a candidate for admission appears to be inappropriate.
Required: Currently holds an RN license in the state of Virginia.
Preferred: Certified Rehab Nurse Certification and membership in the Association of Rehab Nurses and ACLS certification
EDUCATION Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
EXPERIENCE One year nursing experience.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Effective communication skills. Work is of medium demand, ability to lift, bend, stretch, stoop, etc. Standing and walking most of the time on duty.
