Pharmacy Drug Benefit Help Desk Technician The Pharmacy Help Desk Technician performs functions that support the daily reviews of drug coverage determination. The responsibility of the Help Desk is to apply consistent P&T criteria to the use of non-formulary and restricted agents and to help contain costs where appropriate. Our goal is to facilitate the appropriate, cost-effective use of drugs, and not to simply cut costs. The Technician ensures the timely and appropriate coverage of drug therapy in compliance with state and federal laws and in accordance with Kaiser Permanente policies and procedures.

The Technician works closely with Pharmacy and Formulary teams and handles Prior Authorizations. The Technician will be responsible for but not limited to receiving incoming calls from providers, pharmacies and customer service reps to start and check status of prior authorizations for both the Network and KP owned and operated pharmacies.

Data entry Follow up on prior authorization requests Medicare Claims reimbursement Quoting Patient Coverage Entering prior authorization overrides Lettering patient’s and providers Problem solving Qualifications:

Knowledge/Skills Minimum Knowledge/Skills Requirements Basic or limited knowledge of Pharmacy law and its standards of practice. Basic or limited skill in compounding extemporaneous entities. Intermediate problem-solving skills to work with patients and other health care providers Advanced verbal and written communication skills Advanced customer service skills Advanced ability to work effectively as a member of a team. Intermediate ability to identify specified issues and bring to attention of pharmacist. Intermediate ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations, identify drug names and have knowledge of most common uses for pharmaceuticals Intermediate ability to use available resources and tools efficiently and effectively Preferred Knowledge/Skills Advanced ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations, identify drug names and have knowledge of most common uses for pharmaceuticals Advanced ability to use available resources and tools efficiently and effectively Ability to multi-task efficiently
