The Cummins Power Systems Business is a global provider of power generation systems, components, and services in standby power, distributed power generation, as well as auxiliary power in mobile applications to meet the needs of a diversified customer base.

Cummins Power Systems also provides a full range of services and solutions, including long-term operation and maintenance contracts and turnkey and temporary power solutions.

This is an exciting opportunity in Minneapolis, MN for a Program Director Energy Ventures. This newly created role will be responsible for new business growth opportunities in the energy sector as well as the implementation of strategic actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Builds key business initiatives and plans in collaboration with sales, marketing, and product leaders to identify strategies targeting growth.

  • Oversees the analysis, measurement, and tracking of market sales potential across brands, channels, regions, products, etc.

  • Champions new growth and product ideas; oversees special projects that have cross regional implications.

  • Develops processes and procedures to understand competition and input to market lead pricing propositions for designated areas.

  • Advises and consults with internal business partners on business development initiatives and plans.

  • Presents business development and reports to corporate leadership.

  • Formulate annual operational and financial budgets as they relate to organizational objectives.

  • Partners with business leaders to identify short and long-term projects to be undertaken; directs needs analysis in collaboration with business leaders to determine project timelines; oversees analysis, project identification, design, budget, communication, and integration; approves business workflow and project design.

  • Directs the assessment of business needs, Project Manager capabilities and available project budgets.

  • Secures senior leadership sponsorship of projects and approval of objectives; keeps business leadership apprised of project status and developments; monitors project success measures and understands the status of specific projects and assignments.

  • Develops, leads, and motivates project management staff; sets goals in training and development, performance, and career planning.

  • Formulates annual operational and financial budgets as they relate to unit objectives.

Other Responsibilities

  • Leads a variety of business strategy projects within PSBU as well as interfacing with XBU and Corporate stakeholders to ensure alignment; projects to include creation of a new business venture, a joint venture, equity alliance, acquisition, etc.

  • Designs and develops strategy through qualitative and quantitative analysis.

  • Applies strategic framework to analyze opportunities and develop solutions; synthesizes environmental data, stakeholder’s analysis, and market force data as a part of the financial and business analysis necessary to develop insights and solutions to support strategic business decisions.

  • Works closely with the BU President and their staff, corporate strategy, corporate development and the key internal and external constituencies.

  • Maintains strong external networks for deal flow and keeps abreast of distributed generation industry development.

  • Communicates complex deals clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences through both written and oral communication.

  • Actively participates in campus recruiting activities; conducts interviews on campus; interviews professional hires.

  • Maintains business partnerships by effectively leading internal and external partners, such as peers in other units, staff groups, senior management and outside suppliers, to accomplish organizational goals and to identify opportunities and resolve problems.

  • Manages, coaches and mentors others; provides guidance and direction on problems and issues; delegates work assignments considering employee skills and development needs.

Skills

  • Financial Understanding - Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data from financial systems, as well as the ability to execute a business case. Knowledge of the leverage pricing has on financial results. Familiar with tax and duty structures.

  • Market Opportunity Prioritization - Has strong relationships with key stakeholders and a broad understanding of strategies to make good judgment calls.

  • Market Positioning - Has experience creating and successfully implementing market positioning strategies and can apply them in any given market .

  • Issue Management - Maintains a cross-functional, cross-organizational project issues list, with appropriate prioritization based on the issue's level of importance. Drives appropriate and timely resolution and approval of changes to the project plan. Trains and/or mentors others in Change and Issue Management.

  • Scope Management - Solicits and organizes customer requirements (Voice of the Customer), and tracks the status of project deliverables. Proficiently uses a Value Package Profile (VPP) or other appropriate scope-defining document, and proactively manages change. Manages the connections between multiple levels of scope detail in related additional documents (e.g. Tech Profiles or equivalent documents). Trains and/or mentors others in scope management.

  • Schedule Management - Manages complex schedules integrating multiple sub-projects. Coaches "should mapping" sessions, and/or has an advanced level of proficiency with schedule management tools. Trains and/or mentors others in schedule management.

  • Resource Plan Management - Develops, manages, and coordinates cross-functional, cross-organizational resource plans for a portfolio, program, and/or project. Knows the right level of detail needed to complete the processes and use the tools effectively. Trains and/or mentors others in Resource Management.

  • Stakeholder Management And Communication - Identifies, engages and manages stakeholders at many levels of the company and across many functions and across boundaries (geography/cultures/plants/suppliers) on high impact, cross-functional or multi-year initiatives on a project, program or groups of projects and programs.

Overcomes obstacles and resistance among stakeholders. Effectively stratifies stakeholder needs and creates and executes communications plans to fit the unique needs of each type of stakeholder. Trains and/or mentors others in stakeholder management.

  • Business Planning/Strategy - Performs business planning & strategic analysis at an advanced level in a wide range of situations with a broad business knowledge (customers, products, macro economic trends). Negotiates with partners and others.

  • Cross-Functional Knowledge - Understands the detailed work in multiple cross-functional areas. Trains and/or mentors this skill.

  • Project Risk Management - Leads complex or large project teams in the development of a project FMEA and/or 9-box project risk summary, and identifies and manages the

actions to mitigate the risk. Trains and/or mentors other in this skill.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Significant experience, including managerial and budgetary experience, required.

  • Deep understanding of the utilities industry.

  • Strong analytical skills (strong capability with financial modeling); Presentation and Communication

  • Experience in a fast pace, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Strategic and hands on leader with strong leadership and gravitas.

  • Business savvy.

  • Agility to build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external customers.

Education

University degree in engineering or business required. MBA preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Base annual salary commensurate with experience plus annual variable compensation.
