Certification Engineer (m/f)
Location: Soest, Germany
Eaton’s facility in Soest, Germany employs approximately 500 employees, and is a leading manufacturer of specialized LED products - emergency lighting systems including safety lights, common battery facilities (Hardware and Software) as well as visualization and network products used in these systems. These products are sold mainly to customers in the Oil & Gas, Pharmaceutical and Food Processing industries as well as in large airports (Frankfurt Airport), shopping malls and stadiums.
Certification Engineer will be responsible for the certification and assurance of a portfolio of products for Eaton Central Safety Power Supply Systems for Emergency Lighting (CPS-EL). He/she will have the specific responsibility to advise and specify products as they go through the design, development and testing phases then to manage the final approval process for products, working with a number of national and International recognized third parties who certify Emergency Lighting products. Furthermore he/she will have the responsibility to coordinate and manage the certification and / or re-certification of already existing products of our product portfolio. In addition he/she will be responsible for the successful execution of the associated New Product Design (NPD) Projects and the budget allocation.
Complete application forms and gather data for new approval projects from Product Management
Make recommendations on processes and procedures to minimize time delays with Approval bodies
Work with diverse cultural and distributed Development Teams and Product Managers to ensure systems and procedures are in place to minimize errors and delays at the Approvals / Certification bodies.
Keep detailed records and advise approval / certification bodies of major & minor modifications in cooperation with the local standardization and document management department.
Ensure the availability and maintenance of all certification documents related to CPS EL products
Initiate and manage engineering change projects related to the evolution / change of standards applicable to CPS EL products in conjunction with the relevant Product Manager
Ensure publicly available documents relevant to the role are up to date and compliant with the relevant directives and risk-assessments, specifically product user manuals, catalogues, leaflets and web site information
Creating the Declaration of Conformity and the associated technical files in accordance to the requirements of the European Directives, e. g. 2014/30/EU and 2014/35/EU
Act as the first point of contact for Central Power Systems – Emergency Lighting Approval and Compliance issues within the Center of Excellence CPS-EL
Responsible for the technical Project Management of the associated Life Safety Division’s CPS-EL product range
Ensure that standard Project Management processes are utilized and continually improved. This improvement will be reflected in successive PROLaunch assessments
Maintain and improve key Project Management tools and facilities such as the divisional PROLaunch SharePoint
Manage specific assigned projects with responsibility for project scope delivery and successful execution within technical, schedule, cost and quality commitments
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred
Project Management qualification
Comprehensive experience in certification procedures or Project Management
Experience in managing internal and external certification compliance requirements
Broad technical knowledge gained within a product development/industry
Experience in the cooperation with Approval Bodies
Very good knowledge of the relevant Industry national and international standards is a strong advantage
Knowledge of the phases of approvals (submissions, functional testing, EMC & environmental, certification)
Experience in Emergency Lighting design desirable
Fluency in English and German is a must
