Armstrong Flooring, Inc. (AFI) has a job opportunity for a Manufacturing Manager to be located at our South Gate, CA facility. The Manufacturing Manager will bring innovation and strong leadership skills to continually improve the manufacturing operations in one of Armstrong's most critical resilient flooring plants. Under the guidance of the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for effective management and coordination of all production operations associated with the South Gate facility as well as providing general technical and process support for Resilient Flooring.

Key Responsibilities of the Manufacturing Manager: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Modeling the personal and organizational leadership needed to deliver an effective safety process, cultivating an effective safety culture and ensuring safe work performance of multiple production lines

  • Ensuring the effective performance of production and maintenance operations, including safety, quality, delivery and cost

  • Promoting continuous improvement by developing and maintaining systems utilizing tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, etc.

  • Tracking plant and department performance, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing actions to improve performance

  • Effectively managing and developing salaried and hourly personnel

  • Promoting a positive work environment through strong leadership, employee relations, and conflict resolution skills

  • Preparing and managing both annual production line budgets; Assisting in managing the plant budget and capital improvement projects

  • Supporting product development and continuous improvement projects

  • Participating as a member of plant leadership teams, including the Safety Leadership Team and Lean Steering Committee

  • Occasional travel for conferences, vendor meetings or similar activities may be required (<10%)

Supervisory Responsibilities of the Manufacturing Manager:

  • Manages operational support team which includes 4-5 production supervisors

Qualifications of the Manufacturing Manager:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent field

  • Minimum of 10 years manufacturing experience in a durable goods industry, with at least 5 years in a management role

  • Successful track record of achieving plant operational goals

  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and implementation of process improvement methodologies, including Lean and Six Sigma

  • Experience driving and supporting innovative manufacturing systems

  • Experience supporting and implementing organization development and human resources initiatives

  • Business knowledge of budget, asset and cost structure management

  • Must be able to complete the Ishihara test for color blindness and the Farnsworth-Munsell 100-hue color test

Desired Qualifications of the Manufacturing Manager:

  • Master's degree

  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification

  • Lean Certification

  • SAP experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational and teamwork skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to follow established policies and procedures

  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office

  • Ability and willingness to work core hours to support the needs of different shifts
