Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Systems/Communication/Electrical Estimator to join our growing Transportation team in Minneapolis, MN. This position will oversee the construction cost estimating work in the preparation of large and complex project estimates, which will be used for the control of budgets, bid preparation, and/or other purposes from the design phase through construction. This position will be part of our Transportation team providing conceptual, preliminary, final design and construction support for all types of transportation projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluating Contractor requests for changes or modifications during procurement and construction

  • Establishing internal processes to track design and budget progress

  • Quality Control to support estimates

  • Preparing technical evaluations of schedule progress

  • Pricing of work to project/company standards

  • Professional interface with design and construction personnel

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent

  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience

  • Proven Experience with MnDOT construction methods and procedures

  • Experience with Electrical Power, Lighting, Traffic and Train Signaling, Crossing Protection, Communications and Central Control Elements

  • Positive problem solver with a flexible approach to work, committed to excellence, motivated, and a strong team player

  • Good verbal communication skills and the ability to conduct and lead meetings with staff, clients, and stakeholders, as needed

  • Knowledge of HCSS/Timberline/On Screen Takeoff or similar

  • Must be able to deal with uncertainty, document assumptions & remain self-directed in the completion of assigned work

  • Prefer working experience directly with Heavy and/or Civil Contractor in the role of Estimator

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

  • Fully conversant with Primavera packages

  • Understand and be able to apply recourse and cost loading to estimating activities

  • Understand concepts and criteria of design and the procedures to develop highway, light rail, streetcar, BRT and freight rail estimates

  • Ability to review contractor pricing and scope for change order work

  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with transit and/or light rail construction

  • Previous experience on large projects or programs (+$50M)
