Job Summary

As a Senior Controls Design Engineer, you will provide a range of consultancy design services to customers in a variety of fields including Railways, Automotive and Aviation. You will be responsible for the electrical design solutions and producing the detailed design drawings.

You will be joining a well-established and experienced team in one of our larger offices. We are currently recruiting for a Controls Design Engineer to be based in our Swindon office.

In addition, you will need to keep up to date on all the latest products and legislation, maintain a CRM system, report on any competitor activity, communicate with the existing team including the sales department and attend regular corporate meetings. Some travel will be required to undertake site visits and client meetings.

Minimum Requirements

For this role, you will be an experienced electrical controls biased professional who has been surrounded by the automation environment. AECOM is particularly interested in individuals who have performed machine risk assessment and safety related design work in the past, but would happily consider those from other backgrounds. An excellent working knowledge of the safety directives including CE Marking, PUWER, and Machine RISK Assessments (In line with EN 13849-1 / EN 954-1) is required. Individuals who are familiar with general workplace safety, ATEX, Pressure Equipment and Low Voltage also will be considered.

Demonstrable experience to be drawn from the following areas;

• Electrical Design of machinery to BS EN 60204 for CE regulations.

• Panel and Electrical Schematic Diagram design.

• Wire harness design.

• Set up & programming of Servo & Inverter Drives.

• PLC programming and configuration.

• Setup of Network and Field Bus systems.

• HMI programming.

• Electrical Assembly and Installation of machinery.

• Generating quotations.

• Safety systems controls design and/or programming.

• SCADA programming/development.

Demonstrable experience to be drawn from the following areas;

• Electrical Design of electrical distribution systems to BS EN 7671.

• Panel and Electrical Schematic Diagram design.

• Circuit protection and discrimination studies

• Electrical systems concept design.

• HV and LV distribution system design and/or commissioning

• Set up & programming of protection relays.

• Setup of Distributed Control and Field Bus systems.

• Electrical Assembly and Installation of machinery.

• Generating quotations.

Preferred Qualifications

In order to be successful for this role, you should be able to demonstrate;

• Excellent, written and verbal English communication skills to communicate effectively across all levels of staff and management.

• Independent and self-motivated with the ability to effectively organise and deliver to defined deadlines (Quality, Cost & Delivery) across multiple projects.

• Proven experience and high levels of performance

• Initiative, the desire to drive change and motivation to exceed expectations

• Strong leadership skills and ability to manage both vertically and horizontally, delivering projects on time and to cost

• Excellent computer skills in MS Office (Excel , PowerPoint, Word, Access, Projects)

• Experience in manufacturing equipment

• A degree in, or equivalent knowledge of, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or similar discipline
