Position Description

Reporting in a line capacity to the Radiation IT Manager, the incumbent is responsible for implementation, operation and support for the picture archiving and communication system (PACS). Additionally, this individual will act as a liaison in digital imaging initiatives within the department and other departments. Receiving general direction from partner’s and Radiation IT manager, the individual is responsible for overseeing and coordinating existing and participation in new PACS and digital imaging initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day-to-day operation of PACS equipment including image workflow, archiving, auto-routing, and prefetching and other related activities. Works closely with unit operations managers to ensure timely and complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the PACS system as well as network transmission.

  • Scheduling validation, and exceptions handling. Investigates, identifies, and prepares proposals to solve specific operational problems within all clinical operational areas, working closely with unit operations managers and division heads as well as involving the next level of administration as appropriate.

  • Works closely with the senior manager of radiology computing and information sciences, in the development of operating standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Reviews feedback from customers, compiles and analyzes support data, and recommends procedural and educational changes as appropriate.

  • Works closely with radiology's quality management personnel to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes, which include further integration into operations. Works closely with partner’s corporate manager, medical imaging, to oversee and coordinate strategic planning for medical imaging initiatives.

  • Acts as liaison between radiology and other departments related to medical imaging initiatives and procedures and assisting with existing or new medical imaging endeavors.

  • Oversees and coordinates strategic planning for medical imaging initiatives.

  • Works in cooperation with corporate director of medical imaging and administrative director of Radiation IT, identifying present and future needs for equipment installation.

  • Oversees activities of vendors in all phases of installation and implementation of new systems.

  • Prepares reports for administration on all aspects of medical imaging operations as appropriate or directed. Attends and participates in departmental meetings. Attends seminars and training sessions necessary to maintain appropriate level of professional competence. Performs other functions as required and/or assigned.

Minimum Requirements

6 years’ experience in systems programming

Critical Skills

  • The position requires four or more years of related experience with the Administration/Engineering of a Picture Archive Communication System (PACS).

  • Familiarity with specific radiology equipment across multiple modalities, DICOM communications, HL-7 interfaces and WAN networks.

  • Excellent written/oral communication skills required.

  • Must be able to work effectively with diverse groups of people.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and on concurrent, multidisciplinary projects.

  • Proficiency in office automation systems (i.e., Windows 7/Office 2016) required.

Education

4-year degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience. Bachelor's degree in related healthcare discipline or information systems discipline preferred.
