The Director of Business Development for McKesson Specialty Health is responsible for supporting the growth of our oncology business by securing new customers and adhering to McKesson’s ICARE and ILEAD principles. This position requires the highest level of sales competency and mastery of closing new business. They must understand macro and micro healthcare & oncology-specific dynamics, capable of navigating complex business situations and influence physician motivation to effectively close new business. This is accomplished through focused lead generation, strategic prospecting, sales pipeline management, relationship development and personalization of the sales process. Persons in this role must develop a deep understanding of a prospects needs. They focus time and energy building relationships and utilize a consultative sales approach resulting in value creation for the customer and McKesson Specialty Health. This position requires the ability to establish and grow relationships with high level executives, physician leaders and practice administrators, positioning themselves as a trusted advisor. In addition, close collaboration and preparation with internal teams and other field sales experts is essential. They will effectively manage new customers on-boarding with the goal of creating a satisfying customer relationship from the onset.
Grows Specialty Distribution market share through strategic acquisition of new business that meets or exceeds sales objectives. Collaborates with other business functions within McKesson Specialty Health and other business partners (e.g. Lynx Technology, Clinical, Onmark) to drive integrated selling opportunities/solutions to closure.
Responsible for a successful account on-boarding of new customers and transition of business to ONC Account Executive after a defined period.
Provides market intelligence/customer-based feedback to the ONC team that helps position McKesson Specialty Health as a value-add business partner for the customer.
Attends and supports selected trade shows, leadership summits and training events as requested.
Coach/mentor ONC team members on successful business winning strategies and best demonstrated practices to assist in the professional development of team and leadership skills.
8 years sales experience
4-year degree in business or related field or equivalent experience
2-5 years sales experience preferably in the healthcare setting preferably within the pharmaceutical/biotech, healthcare distribution, healthcare technology or medical device/supply sales space.
Experience with pharmaceutical products (preferably oncology) and buy-and-bill model
Minimum 2-year record of sales success, emphasizing development of new business.
Demonstrated success selling to physicians, practice administrators and C-Suite executives
Understanding of hospital administration and Independent Delivery Networks (IDNs) and how they operate with practices in the clinic setting
Budget and expense management experience
Additional Knowledge & Skills
Consultative selling experience to the specialty physician market highly preferred.
Experience in and demonstrated understanding of healthcare and distribution, GPO, community oncology, industry trends, EHRs, inventory management technologies, billing and coding, private and public reimbursement models and payer contracting highly desired
MBA preferred but is not required
Knowledgeable in healthcare reform
Ability to rapidly learn new software applications (including proprietary web-based applications, customer service tools, etc).
SalesForce.com and SAP experience a plus.
Excellent time management and communication skills
Ability to work autonomously and remain accountable to set sales goals and objectives
4-year degree in business or related field or equivalent experience
General Office Demands
Current driver’s license required.
Physical ability to travel; extensive driving.
Lifting (up to 50 lbs.)
Ability to travel a minimum of 75% of the work week on a regular basis is expected of the individuals that pursue this role
