Job Summary

Savannah River Remediation, an LLC of AECOM, is seeking a

Senior Payroll Analyst to be based in our Aiken, SC location.

The Senior Payroll Analyst position works with an outside payroll service provider to ensure a successful and accurate payroll process. Support of the overall payroll process, payroll reporting, General Ledger account reconciliations, month end closing, audit support and relocation expense tracking are the primary job responsibilities. The Analyst ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and applicable federal and state regulations. Ad hoc queries and payroll desktop procedures are also created and maintained as necessary.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Verifies manual pay lines are accurate before submitting for payment.

  • Extracts, analyzes, and reconciles payroll, tax and benefit data on a scheduled and ad hoc basis. This includes, but is not limited to deductions for medical, dental, vision, 401K, Flexible Spending Accounts, federal, state and local tax, life insurance, worker's compensation, child support, garnishments, and specialty deductions such as credit union and car insurance for employees.

  • Investigates out of balance situations and conducts research to resolve.

  • Prepares wire transfers, Accounts Payable (AP) vouchers, as well as ACH and positive pay files to be submitted to the bank.

  • Creates and reviews benefits administrative fee invoices and prepares necessary documentation for payment.

  • Accumulates data to prepare and submit quarterly and annual Federal and State tax returns.

  • Performs year end payroll process that includes balancing W-2’s to annual federal and state tax returns.

  • Works with Contracts department to track employees performing work in other states. Researches applicable tax rules to ensure compliance. Prepares AP vouchers for any tax withholding and prepares state payroll tax returns.

  • Prepares AP vouchers for Union fringes. Ensures compliance with labor agreements.

  • Prepares journal entry to record weekly and monthly payroll runs.

  • Handles wage overpayments by providing correspondence to terminated employees who were overpaid. Acquires repayment if possible.

  • Calculates and prepares off cycle payroll check requests.

  • Handles special compensation requested by corporate that includes bonuses, stock options, living stipends and international compensation. Records cost in the general ledger.

  • Tracks ongoing benefit expenses for company budgeting/costing purposes.

  • Compiles, analyzes and submits payroll, benefit and other information for periodic and ad hoc reports such as the semi-annual report on compensation or the annual iBenefits report to satisfy DOE requirements/requests.

  • Works with employees who believe their paycheck is inaccurate or who may have taxation or garnishment issues. Investigates, resolves and communicates back to employee.

  • Ensures payroll reporting and payments are compliant with company policy, GAAP, and federal, state and IRS regulations.

  • Prepares monthly and quarterly general ledger account reconciliations for payroll related accounts.

  • Responds to auditing, corporate and regulatory inquiries.

  • Reviews and approves expense reports for employees that are relocating to ensure they adhere to the company Relocation Policy.

  • Prepares tax form 4782 for relocation employees at year end and provides gross up information for inclusion in the W-2’s.

  • Supports month end closing.

  • Extracts, uploads and integrates data from multiple systems.

  • Prepares and submits invoices to non-DOE customers.

  • Generates financial reports such as direct labor rates, unallowable costs, fee distribution and tracking.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Information:

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and 4+ years progressive payroll experience

  • Experience with one or more payroll systems

  • Experience with databases and familiarity with queries

  • Strong understanding of accounting processes including accruals, debits and credits

  • In-depth understanding of the payroll cycle and how it impacts the General Ledger

  • Proficient with MS Office

  • Due to the nature of the work, candidate must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous payroll experience in a government setting

  • Previous experience using PeopleSoft payroll system

  • Previous experience using Costpoint accounting system

  • Active Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) license

  • Understanding of financial systems

  • Highly organized

  • Keen attention to detail

  • Customer service oriented
