Job Description:

Purpose & Accountabilities:

  • Reporting to the area PEI Supervisor this position is responsible for providing mechanical engineering and technical integrity functions related to the design, repair, and alterations of piping, pressure vessels, tanks, and boilers at Scotford.

  • Responsible for Plant / Unit compliance to provincial and federal regulatory requirements covering pressure equipment including new construction, repairs, turnarounds, and maintenance .

  • Provide engineering support in the identification and assessment of damage mechanisms typical the plants equipment.

  • Shared responsibility for the maintenance of the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management (PEIM) program.

  • Responsible for re-rating equipment, fitness for service evaluations and remaining life assessments.

  • Provide engineering support to area inspectors for the development of inspection plans, repair reports/procedures, and inspection reports/procedures.

  • Provide engineering support to the Management of Change system

  • Provide technical input to projects, failure investigations, and root causes analyses.

Dimensions:

The high-stress environment at times due to the impact of decisions on regulatory compliance and safety that need to be balanced against cost and schedule. The role requires call-ins on off hours to deal with plant issues and overtime as dictated. Reporting to the PEI Engineering Supervisor this position is responsible for providing technical support to the repair, alterations, and inspection, of piping, pressure vessels, tanks, and boilers for a designated process unit within Scotford.

Requirements:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree.

  • P. Eng designation or eligible for P. Eng. in Alberta

  • 5 - 10 years of professional experience at upgrading or manufacturing site and/or refinery industries

  • Solid working knowledge in supporting piping, pressure vessels, storage tanks and heat exchangers industry standards (ASME Pressure Vessel Code, API, ASTM, WRC, etc.).

  • Experience in Failure analysis

  • Working knowledge of design software (Compress, Caesar 2 and HTRI) is preferred but not required.

  • Demonstrates and shares professional expertise.

  • Consistently achieves results by setting challenging targets, organizing work effectively and overcoming obstacles. Knows how to make use of networks and demonstrates communication and influencing skills.
