Current Need

The Sr. Manager, Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) is responsible for developing, managing and supporting the McKesson safety and environmental policies and programs and collaborating with Environmental Health & Safety team members, BU and facility leaders on program development, oversight and implementation. McKesson Alpharetta/Atlanta area facility based preferred however, will consider other locations for the right candidate.

Position Description

  • Participates in the development of McKesson EH&S policies and procedures.

  • Develops safety, injury prevention and environmental compliance awareness materials, initiatives, projects and training programs.

  • Provides safety program leadership through the support, management and/or development of SOPs, reporting processes, training programs, audits, safety management system portal and other related EH&S projects.

  • Assists with program oversight and development for environmental compliance programs such as hazardous waste management and hazardous materials management. Oversees portions of the hazardous materials classification, regulatory reporting, and hazardous waste management processes/contracts.

  • Communicates and collaborates safety and environmental project objectives with business units and facilities.

  • Advises and assists business unit, regional and facility managers on implementation and conformance with McKesson safety and environmental programs, and compliance with regulatory standards. Recommends best practices to exceed minimum compliance requirements.

  • Collaborates with BU safety leaders to assist in the development of annual Service Plans and initiatives and coordinates activities with EH&S team to ensure project completion. May conduct or assist with periodic and year-end status updates with BU stakeholders.

  • Provides technical expertise and consultation to regional facilities on regulatory, construction, property conservation and other EH&S issues.

  • Functions as an audit team member and participates in safety and/or environmental compliance assessments of McKesson facilities and, where appropriate, McKesson contractors.

  • Provides visible leadership in promoting a safety culture within McKesson.

  • Participates in professional development programs to further expertise and stay in forefront of emerging safety issues and regulatory developments.

  • Participates in the investigation, follow up and root-cause analysis of significant safety incidents as assigned. region.

  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with OSHA/EPA/DOT/FAA and/or other local safety/environmental regulatory bodies and assists facilities with responses to agency inquiries and inspections.

  • Teams with other functional leaders, including Human Resources, Risk Management, Real Estate / Facility Management, Regulatory Affairs and others as necessary to ensure that all aspects of safety and environmental issues within the region are addressed appropriately.

Minimum Requirements

  • 5 years experience in environmental health and safety and 2 years managerial experience

Critical Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of safety experience in a distribution and warehousing environment or 10 or more years safety experience in other environments (manufacturing, retail, transportation, etc.,).

  • Must have experience developing and implementing safety / regulatory compliance programs.

  • Leadership skills necessary to influence others and command their action and confidence during fast breaking crisis situations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely; ability to prepare and deliver high level presentations and briefings, for both internal and external audiences.

  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to gather and critically evaluate information and prepare written documents that clearly and concisely identify the issues presented and their proposed resolutions.

Additional Knowledge & Skills

  • Comfortable working either independently or as part of a team.

  • Must be able to work on and prioritize multiple tasks; must be able to work well under pressure, both internal and external and exercise sound judgment.

  • Should have team building and project management skills and demonstrated experience in program management, ergonomic work site analysis, training and communication processes.

  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Internet, email, word processing and database programs

  • Ability to monitor and manage a budget

  • Preference given to candidates with Minimum B.S. degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline

Education

  • 4 year degree in related field or equivalent experience

Certifications/Licensure

  • Certifications preferred include CSP, ARM or CHMM
