Job Description

Investment Strategist

Investment Strategist responsible for in-depth asset allocation analyses and recommendations for the various IBM Pension Plans worldwide with approximately $85B of total assets. This person will also be looked to as the key analytics expert in employing market-leading risk tools such as Blackrock Aladdin as well as various in-house excel-based models.


  • Perform portfolio analysis to ensure current allocations optimize desired risk and return objectives

  • Perform analyses revisiting the funds' objectives periodically, and perform what-if analyses on ways to modify allocations and asset-liability match

  • Prepare annual investment strategy

  • Monitor funds' risks using vendor tools and in-house excel tools, and also enhance monitoring objectives and processes

  • Prepare and deliver presentations to the investment committee on a variety of strategy, market and risk topics

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Economics with CFA Designation (Preferred: Masters in Finance or Economics with quantitative/analytical focus)

  • Must have advanced skills with at least 5 years’ experience in the below areas:

  • Excel: Building models in investments, portfolio construction and asset-liability matching areas

  • Ad-hoc analyses: Performing complex analyses related to portfolio return, risk, and what-if scenario analyses

  • Data Providers: Employing Factset and/or Bloomberg in building models and performing analyses

  • Strong background in all major asset classes and benchmarks

  • Make a strong contribution in a collaborative team-oriented environment, solid communications and interpersonal skills

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Master's Degree in Finance

  • At least 3 years experience in investment strategy and/or risk management, with solid understanding of modern portfolio theory, risk management concepts, portfolio construction and optimization techniques

  • At least 2 years experience in alternative investments, including hedge fund strategies, commodities, private equity and private real estate

  • At least 2 years experience in liability-driven investing, and a solid understanding of fixed income investments

  • Basic knowledge in working with an institutional Investment Committee
