Position Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic Sr. Manager Accounting who will support controllership and oversight of the accounting function for a specific division within the Life Sciences Solutions Group (LSG) of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The primary focus will be on site level reporting. The role will support the division's North America Finance teams and will manage one direct report. The successful candidate should have prior public accounting experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive accurate and timely monthly closing of the site accounting ledgers in accordance with the financial close schedule in collaboration with the Regional Shared Service Center (SSC) Accounting team in Costa Rica

  • Ensure accurate, timely and complete balance sheet reconciliations within the Blackline system through user training and management review

  • Highlight any exceptions arising and engage directly with business finance to document, remediate and report in the quarterly representation letter as appropriate

  • Act as Single Point of Contact and liaison between the SSC team and site teams

  • Perform site level analytical review of monthly financial results across in-scope sites to ensure balance sheet accuracy and manage account aging

  • In liaison with the Corporate and Group accounting resources, provide technical accounting support to the sites to ensure proper accounting treatment to US GAAP

  • Coordination of the quarterly reviews and year-end financial audit process performed by the internal and external auditors as required.

  • Ensure that sites accounting functions are being performed as stated in company policies and procedures, financial close schedule, and in accordance with US GAAP and SOX controls.

  • Liaise with corporate and external tax resources to ensure timely and accurate Sales Tax and Property Tax compliance and reporting

  • Work proactively to identify lessons learned on accounting processes within other Thermo Fisher Divisions and drive corrective actions and process improvements locally as necessary

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachlors degree and/or Master’s degree in Accounting a plus

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including prior public accounting experience

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Advanced user of Excel (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP). Previous Blackline experience an advantage

  • Ability to thrive in a large, matrixed, international organization and have the ability to work cross-functionally with individuals and teams

  • Keep an eye toward continuous improvement with a successful track record of optimizing processes

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and execute them successfully

  • Be successful in a fast-paced environment
