IBM DevOps Engineer for The Weather Company in ATLANTA, Georgia

Job Description

The Weather Systems Group within The Weather Company, an IBM Business, is seeking a DevOps Engineer to join a highly skilled and motivated team of software professionals. Weather Systems is responsible for managing and processing vast amounts of weather data used to drive our top consumer apps and websites and empower weather-sensitive businesses worldwide. Help us develop automation and deployment strategies, implement and deploy business critical weather systems in IBM Cloud and AWS and learn emerging technologies (Cloud, NoSQL, Big Data).

  • Deliver fast, scalable, and fault tolerant services

  • Develop ways to get products into production quicker

  • Plan for disaster recovery and capacity growth

  • Provide monitoring and alerting

  • Develop repeatable solutions to build out environments


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • At least 5 years' experience with Linux Administration(RedHat/CentoS 6.x and 7.x)

  • 1+ year experience in working in AWS or in other cloud providers

  • 1+ year experience in high volume public-facing web site/API management environments

  • Excellent understanding of TCP/IP and network protocols

  • Experience with Chef configuration management

  • Experience in capacity planning for Networking, I/O, CPU, RAM and Storage in a cloud environment

  • Good working knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, Perl, Python or Ruby.

  • Experience with building and deploying applications and release management (DevOps)

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Puppet configuration management

  • Terraform infrastructure management

  • Varnish or haproxy

  • Source code version control (i.e., git, svn)

  • JVM (Java Virtual Machine) configuration and tuning

  • RabbitMQ or similar messaging technologies

  • NoSQL solutions (Redis, Riak, MongoDB, Hadoop, Cassandra)

  • Kubernetes, Docker, and/or other containerization experience
