Home Depot Manager, Accounting - Real Estate in Atlanta, Georgia

POSITION PURPOSE -

The Manager - Real Estate Accounting (Leases) manages the Lease Accounting team, including accounting and reporting, GAAP compliance, process improvements and both internal and external reporting.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES –

  • Manages and supports lease accounting team, consisting of onshore resources and offshore retained outsource resources

  • Reviews monthly general ledger account reconciliations

  • Prepares and/or reviews commentary for assigned income statement and balance sheet variance analyses

  • Assists Financial Reporting team with preparation/review of lease disclosures for US GAAP and SEC reporting

  • Ensures timely completion of capital lease testing and evaluates results for accuracy

  • Contributes to maintenance and support of lease accounting software (Lucernex)

  • Prepares and/or reviews monthly and quarterly internal management reporting

  • Supports and advises internal business partners with technical interpretation and application of ASC 842

  • Supervises, develops and evaluates staff

  • Assists Financial Controls team in preparation and maintenance of all lease-related internal controls narratives

  • Evaluates lease accounting policies and procedures for accuracy and completeness

  • Certifies SOX compliance for all key controls relating to leases

  • Provides maintenance and support of Lucernex lease accounting software

  • Leads special projects as assigned

NATURE AND SCOPE -

  • Typically reports to Reports to Sr. Manager

  • Accountable for the management of a department or functional group through subordinate supervisors/managers and for all personnel issues -- including selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development of subordinates.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.

  • Must pass the Drug Test.

  • Must pass the Background Check

  • Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable

EDUCATION REQUIRED -

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 7-10 years

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

  • Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS -

  • Certified Public Accountant

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -

  • ASC 842 experience

  • SAP experience

  • Blackline experience

  • Prior experience in public accounting

  • Experience with Lucernex or similar lease accounting software

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -

  • Working knowledge of ASC 842: Leases

  • Financial Analysis

  • Written and verbal communication skills

  • Problem-solving skills

  • Ability to identify and effectively assess financial statement risk
