Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Performs and supervises Corporate Accounting activities.

Principal Duties:

  • Oversees monthly journal entries preparation and review, income statement variance reviews, and financial statement reviews.

  • Oversees and prepares journal entries and general ledger reconciliations.

  • Ensures that financial transactions are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and as prescribed by the Surface and Transportation Board (STB).

  • Supervises the preparation of quarterly and annual GAAP and STB reports.

  • Supervises the preparation of various internal and external reports for presentation to management, the Board of Directors, Interstate

  • Commerce Commission and stockholders.

  • Reviews and analyzes the work of experts to estimate liabilities and annual expenses for personal injury, environmental, and related claims.

  • Analyzes and interprets complicated financial transactions.

  • Prepares written analyses explaining any significant changes in the financial statements and answers questions related to our published financial data.

  • Requires thorough knowledge of financial reporting standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 3-5 years

Preferred Level for Management Consideration: 6-10 years

Education:

Preferred Level: Bachelor's Degree (BS)

Preferred Major: Accounting

Licenses / Certifications:

Required: Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
