Kaiser Permanente RN Coordinator, Cardiology in Atlanta, Georgia

The coordinator will utilize a high level of knowledge about cardiology clinical operations and medical conditions associated with cardiology. The coordinator will work directly with the cardiology clinic physicians, midlevel providers, and nursing staff. Adjust patient and provider schedules to efficiently utilize template time while ensuring accurate and appropriate patient scheduling. Ability to effectively communicate scheduling and template management with providers and nursing staff. Interprets data received prior to visits, including information from the cardiology physicians, and utilizes judgment in the appropriate and timely scheduling of appointments that are in line with the treatment. Ability to be self-directed and act independently to manage multiple scheduling tasks at once and intervene as appropriate to resolve issues. Ensure that various functions, outpatient schedules, procedural schedule, imaging and stress schedules are coordinated and efficient.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the day-to-day management of new patient referrals and patient scheduling within the department of cardiology.

  • Facilitate member appointments as triaged by the cardiology providers, Case Management, HUB, and rounding providers.

  • Understand and utilize direct template management in the daily coordination of member appointments.

  • Provide a direct and immediately available resource for internal and external providers who may have STAT or urgent referrals.

  • Answers inquiries from external/internal providers, patients and family members by telephone relating to the information needed in the referral process.

  • Ongoing screening and review of patients seen within the department, with emphasis on ensuring appropriate testing and accurate scheduling of low acuity and subspecialty patients.

  • Responsible for making the above information available for the provider interview during a new consult visit.

  • Asks pertinent questions to ascertain the type of office visit needed and assist in scheduling appointments based on guidelines established by the providers of Cardiology.

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate record keeping, referral database and generating reports on referral activity.

  • Consults with Practitioners, RNs, Specialty Nurse Manager and/or Operations Manager and disseminates messages to all parties relating to schedule changes.

  • Maintains statistical data as requested by provider or supervisor.

  • May assist with arranging hospital admissions per provider orders.

  • Assist with scheduling outpatient procedures per Cardiology Surgery Scheduling Tickets, coordinating pre-procedures labs, provide pre-procedure patient teaching, obtain pre-procedure hospital orders from MD's, collecting and providing completed pre-procedure documents to hospital procedure scheduling department.

  • May assist with stress testing as needed.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Minimum three (3) years of RN clinical nursing experience.

  • Minimum two (2) years in cardiovascular care or Cardiac Stress Lab.


  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Georgia or able to obtain prior to date of hire.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association must be obtained prior to hire date.

  • Current Advanced Cardia Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association must be obtained proir to hire date

Additional Requirements:

  • Customer service aptitude demonstrating through Customer Service Assessment.

  • Complete a Customer Service Assessment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Cardiology Clinic Managerial Experience preferred.

  • Bachelor's Degree or four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
