- The Technical Writer / Editor edits and proofreads complex training materials produced for the Security Exchange Commission (SEC); Marks hard-copy training materials, proofreads final copy against marked copy, and performs online editing for a variety of media.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates experience in drafting and editing documents, including technical documents.
Demonstrated ability to work independently or under only general direction.
Provides technical writing support to assist in the efficient operations to revise, create, and maintain standardized material for reports, manuals, briefs, presentations, proposals, orders, and related technical and administrative publications.
Must analyze requirements of programs to determine the type of publications needed.
Must also assist in organizing material and complete writing assignments according to standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology.
Maintain records of files of work and revisions. Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers.
Establish technical specifications and determine subject material to be developed for publication.
Analyze developments in specific field to determine the need for revisions in previously published materials and development of new material.
Selects photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts to illustrate material.
Must keep abreast of current organization changes.
Draft prepares Congressional correspondences.
Observe production, development, and experimental activities to determine operating procedures and detail.
Arrange duplications for distribution.
Write, edit, produce and maintain on-line documentation.
Provide quality assurance efforts, assemble documentation for audits and ensures that documents are compliant with Federal Regulations.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
Master’s degree and/or certification(s) in a related labor category field from an accredited college, university, school or educational institution that has been accredited by accrediting bodies or organizations recognized by the US Department of Education
Five (5) years of relevant technical experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be able to work effectively in an extremely pressured environment.
Must have and use excellent oral and written communications skills.
Must be proficient with Microsoft 2010 or newer programs.
Ability to provide favorable credit history
Ability to work on high-visibility or mission critical aspects of a given program and performs all functional duties independently.
Ability to oversee the efforts of less senior staff and/or be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.
Excellent proofreading and editing skills sufficient to produce publication-ready documents
Working knowledge of the publication process, including the principles of version control and file management

The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
