Kaiser Permanente Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in Aurora, Colorado

Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment to produce images of specified areas of body. In accordance w/ Radiologist-s instructions & using knowledge of ultrasound techniques & procedures, anatomical & pathological relationships, & the contour & composition of the body. Makes members/patients & their needs a primary focus of one's actions; develops & sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, & needs. Builds rapport & cooperative relationship w/ members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs & resolves problems.

Essential Functions:- Courteously instructs patients regarding preparation for examination; explains procedures to be performed. Positions patients to obtain desired images in accordance w/ physician's instructions & using knowledge of human anatomy.

  • Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment to produce images of specified areas of the body; monitors images & identifies anatomical structures. Makes necessary adjustments to obtain optimal images. Labels images as appropriate. Operates & maintains image recording equipment.

  • Instructs patient, in a courteous manner, regarding imaging procedures. Positions patients & operates imaging equipment following established practice guidelines. Reviews images for accuracy & technical quality according to established standards. Submits images for interpretation by radiologist or designee. Practices ALARA principles.

  • Assists w/ procedures such as interventional procedures, provides patient education; obtains informed consent as needed. Practices sterile techniques & standard precautions.

  • Follows established quality assurance/quality control program. monitoring the operating condition of the equipment & accessories. Promptly reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.

  • Maintains inventory of supplies, according to established levels.

  • Communicates clearly, effectively & appropriately both verbally & w/ written communication. Demonstrates courteous & appropriate telephone skills. Considers the cognitive, physical, emotional & chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients in the age group served.

  • Exercises clinical judgment w/in scope of practice. May work w/ students & may be required to work at the reception desk or on the phones to schedule appointments.

  • Performs other duties as required. May include assisting in other areas of the department.

  • May require working w/ radiant energy sources, & w/ biological &/or hazardous materials.

Basic Qualifications:


  • N/A


  • Two (2) years of college level education or equivalent experience in a health care field.

  • Completion of an approved training program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

License, Certification, Registration

  • Currently registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in the specialty areas of Abdomen, and/or Obstetrics/Gynecology.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to operate Radiologic equipment and perform related technical procedures.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.

  • Excellent customer service skills required, with a focus on patient centered care.

  • Basic computer skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer six (6) months of experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.

  • Vascular registry preferred.
