SDMC POSITION TITLE: Accounting Manager

HCA STANDARDIZED JOB TITLE: Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Controller. Supervises all general ledger accounting and accounting staff. Coordinates the annual audit and assists with the tax return preparation. Coordinates with the controller the budget process and implementation.

REPORTS TO: Controller

POSITION(S) SUPERVISED: Accounting Coordinator, Accountant & Senior Accountant

  1. Supervises and reviews the preparation of operation analyses and month end reconciliations prepared by the accounting staff for the Hospital, Pavilion, Rehab., OHS, Georgetown Hospital and Division.

1.1 Assures all material and non-recurring variances are identified and explained 1.2 Reviews all journal entries prepared by the accounting staff for propriety and accuracy. 1.3 Reviews all individual and consolidated financial statements, analysis and narratives for completion and accuracy. 1. Assures all questions raised by Administrators/Directors are addressed timely. 1. Reviews all balance sheet reconciliations for completion and accuracy. 1. Assures all financial reports accurately reflect results of operations and are prepared in accordance with GAAP. 1. Prior to Controller review, reviews/prepares month end closing checklist for distribution to Division CFO. 1. Prepares monthly operating reports for distribution to the Hospital CFO/CEO.
  1. Responsible for Intercompany billing for all entries on a monthly basis.

15% 1. Supervises accountant who prepares the intercompany billing monthly journal entries.

2.2 Reviews journal entries for timely inclusion in financial statements 2.3 Coordinates with Corporate, internal departments and other Austin facilities to capture and allocate shared expenses.
  1. Assists in the development of the operating and capital budgets.

3.1 Plans and schedules, with the controller, the annual budget process. Communicates and educates department Directors and Administrators regarding the budgeting guidelines and procedures. 3.2 Assists in projecting and reviewing the general operating expenses, revenues and statistics for the facilities. 3.3 Responsible for preparing the accounting department and administration budget.
  1. Coordinates the annual financial audits with independent and internal audit teams. Assists with tax return preparation by providing requested information.

1. Ensure client-prepared audit work papers are completed prior to audit fieldwork. 2. Ensure accounting procedures and unusual transactions are reviewed for compliance with GAAP. 3. Provides requested information to be used in the preparation of the tax return and estimated tax payments.
  1. Responsible for supervision of accounting employees, distribution of information from management to staff and employee complaints.

10% 1. Conducts reviews on a timely basis and compiles data throughout the review year to support the review comments.

1. Provide timely feedback to staff regarding performance. 1. Ensure all necessary information regarding policy, benefits, and procedures is given to staff timely. 1. Responsible for responding to employee complaints and suggestions timely.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED/PREFERRED):

EDUCATION: Graduate of a bachelors program in Accounting or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE . Minimum of 3 years accounting experience required. Health Care experience preferred. Management and supervisory experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and St. David’s “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.

  • Good Communication and organization skills. Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, 10-key by touch, ability to develop and use spreadsheets, and good analytical skills.
