Position Summary

This is a very exciting position for someone to boost their career, the Chemist for Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Business Unit will join the Library Development team for the Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry & Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry product lines in developing compound libraries for High Resolution Accurate Mass (HRAM) GCMS workflows. This role will be responsible for creating and developing HRAM libraries as well as keep a pulse on competitor libraries for similar products across all industries, including but not limited to pharmaceuticals, toxicology, and forensics. Within this activity, the person will work with Software, Product Management and Application Teams to develop, plan and execute all testing needed to generate data required by the workflow.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform instrument tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support compound additions for GCMS HRAM (high resolution accurate mass) library creation

  • Conduct detailed quality checks on libraries being developed and ensure that Thermo Fisher quality standards are met, as these will be customer-facing products

  • Work in partnership with the applications team, potentially customers and vertical markets to collaborate on library development

  • Collaborate proactively with Product Evaluation team to integrate library releases with software and driver testing to ensure a successful product is created

  • Sustain knowledge of competitor library marketing and development as well as share information with the broader team on the competitive arena and technical developments for HRAM GC libraries

  • Work under laboratory best practices and follow strict methodologies to carry out instrument tests, including sample collection, sample preparation, and analyses

  • Maintain, troubleshoot and use standard laboratory equipment; ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced; identify suppliers of standards and keep record of consumables consumption

  • Assist with the preparation or revision of standard operating procedures and qualification documentation

  • Assist with the preparation of reports and technical notes/application notes in support of development of libraries activities

  • Ensure safety procedures and safety checks are applied in the working area

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a Chemistry-related field with 2-3 years of experience in Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry or a Master’s or PhD in a Chemistry-related field is required

  • Prior laboratory experience using Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry instrumentation required, experience with high resolution instruments strongly preferred

  • Must be detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills and feel at ease communicating regularly with technical and business teams across global sites

  • Exceptional problem solving and troubleshooting skills are required

  • Ability to manage projects and deadlines in a fast paced environment and leverage external and internal resources to resolve issues and meet customer needs

  • Ability to use MS Office Suite to create application notes and presentations
