In 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016, the hospital earned a national distinction for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group. ** *Position Summary* The Nurse Educator for Surgical Services coordinates and implements the educational activities for Surgical Services in conjunction with the Surgical Services leadership team. He/she is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to patients with a broad range of illnesses. The Surgical Services educator is involved in direct and indirect patient care. The Surgical Services educator provides education direction to, Registered Nurses, Surgical Technicians, Patient Care Technicians, Attendants, and other non-licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care. The Surgical Services Educator supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the objectives of the hospital. In collaboration with other health team members, follow s the philosophy, policies and goals of the facility and department.
*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:* The Educator establishes priorities and makes independent decisions of a complex nature. Regular and predictable attendance is required. They must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and North Austin Medical Center.

Required: BSN; Must be able to meet and maintain the requirements of the Registered Nurse Job Description.
Preferred: MSN;Two years of Surgical Services Educator Experience andComputer Skills
*Licenses and Certifications:* Required: Texas RN License, BLS Certification
Preferred: CNOR or equivalent surgical services certification
