St. David's South Austin Medical Center is an acute care facility with 316 beds, offering a range of complex specialties and sub-specialties, including a nationally accredited oncology program with the area’s only adult bone marrow transplant program; a trauma program that includes all of the capabilities and programmatic elements of a Level II trauma center to treat the most severely injured and critical patients; a comprehensive cardiac program; full-service maternity and newborn care with Level I and II nurseries; and two full-service emergency centers in the communities of Bee Cave and Bastrop. _ _ _Position Summary _ The Speech/Language Pathologist shall perform highly skilled evaluations and differential diagnosis of complex communication disorders or assigned patients; plan, provide and evaluate therapy for assigned patients; complete all necessary oral and written documentation, participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
Provides speech therapy for patients per physician orders with acceptable technical ability for optimal performance.
Documents diagnosis of patients and takes all precautions for observing indications and contraindications. Administers therapy evaluations according to Texas State licensure rules, SAMC hospital policies and procedures, JCAHO requirements, and other applicable regulatory requirements. Maintains current Speech Language Pathology licensure/CPR. Communicates with attending physicians for clarification or elaboration or prescribed orders. Observe and evaluates treatment effect. Demonstrates proficiency in evaluating and treating communication disorders, speech, language and oral/pharyngeal sensory motor competencies. Exhibits knowledge and skill in treatment of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Administers evaluations as ordered and documents results appropriately. Proficiently assesses and treats swallowing disorders.
Performs Modified Barium Swallow studies in conjunction with the Radiology Department.
Participates in Hospital-wide process improvement activities. Responds to Hospital codes and performs duties accordingly. Always employs universal precautions when exposed to blood and body fluids. Demonstrates understanding of HCA’s and “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
_Education and Experience:_ Required: Master's Degree in Speech Therapy Preferred: 1 Year as Clinical Speech Pathologist
Required:* State of Texas Committee of Speech/Language Pathology and hold the certificate of clinical competence issued by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. BLS certification through American Heart Association.
_Schedule:_ Every weekend plus one weekday (usually Friday or Monday). Part-time with full-time benefit premium rates.
