We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual contributor to fill the position of Technical Service Specialist within our Technology organization. The position will reside at our Technical Center in Avon Lake, Ohio, and support our PVC business.
Essential Job Duties:
This position is responsible for contributing to Tech Service activities in support of OxyVinyls’ Business objectives.
Maintain, as our highest priority, the protection of the environment, the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products.
Understand and work in accordance with all site safety and environmental procedures including the site Chemical Hygiene Plan. Adhere to the use of personal protective equipment as required.
Provide technical support to Oxy customers, sales force, business management, and supply chain to maintain and grow the business.
Recommend product specifications, quality parameters, and shipping guidelines to meet customer needs and expand sales.
Recommend product quality improvements and provide direction for new product development based on customer feedback.
Investigate customer quality complaints related to the performance of PVC products, and recommend corrective actions to customers, manufacturing, business management and supply chain.
Report results in the form of spreadsheets, charts, graphs, formalized technical reports, and PowerPoint presentations to customers, sales, business and technical management.
Develop Technical Data Sheets and Technical Bulletins related to the characteristics and use of PVC products.
Train new Sales and Technical personnel in resin applications.
Share knowledge of PVC resin properties and additives used to compound PVC.
Share knowledge of dry blend mixing, PVC compounding and extrusion, Brabender analysis techniques, and a variety of plastics and physical testing methodologies.
Determine equipment and instrumentation needs for routine and non-routine PVC application testing.
Evaluate data and identify trends, providing a technical basis for conclusions.
Work as an individual contributor and on small teams with other technical staff.
Keep current of new technology and ensure that relevant technology is maintained and communicated within the organization.
Work with scientist and outside vendors on research projects as needed.
Ability to travel to support customers, sales, and business as needed.
Establish and maintain open communication with OxyVinyls customers and sales to ensure they are aware of Technology group technical capabilities and that we are available to assist with customer troubleshooting and/or process improvement objectives.
Ensure compliance with OxyVinyls safety data sheets, product labels, regulatory and Responsible Care to promote the safe handling and use of OxyVinyls' PVC products.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other relevant technical discipline.
10 years of PVC industry experience or closely related field.
Must have knowledge of fundamental chemical principles, laboratory practices, and laboratory safety.
High degree of problem solving and organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
Comfortable presenting information to customers and all levels of management.
Must be able to work in teams.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 pounds, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Rigid PVC processing knowledge and/or experience in PVC compound development, extrusion, injection molding, and calendaring.
Proficiency with CRM, Rail Ops, and SAP.
Supervisory and/or training experience.
