About Strategy Consulting Insights Team

Strategy Consultancy Insights (SCI) team is part of the Group Strategy Consultancy & Portfolio team, which reports directly to the Shell CEO. Strategy Consulting Insights (SCI) team in Shell provides credible and actionable insights, enabling strategy development and critical decisions. We achieve this by cost effectively combining data analysis with business/competitive intelligence across our products and services across the lines of businesses (LoBs) in the value chain – Upstream, Downstream, Projects, Integrated Gas and Renewables. We are 200+ team members with 50 plus members based in Bangalore, and the remaining based in London, Houston & Hague. We as a team horizontally cut across the entire spectrum of businesses for Shell world-wide, offering strategic solutions & insights to make the right business decisions.

Job Description

We are looking for a Competitive Intelligence Lead to join our Strategy Consultancy Insights (SCI) team in Bangalore. If you enjoy solving complex problems, driving analytics, collaborating extensively across stakeholders & can communicate impactfully to influence right business decisions; then this role is right for you. We continuously seek people who are curious, creative, externally focused and commercially aware.

In this role you will help deliver a suite of products that help address key priorities & challenges for Senior Shell Leaders including the Executive Board. You will be responsible for end to end delivery of products ranging from opportunity identification, competitor profiling, global competitive reviews and in-depth topical or regional deep dives. You will also lead delivery through strong project management & hands-on analysis while collaborating with global teams, business stakeholders, subject matter experts and internal customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of Project Delivery: End to end accountability & autonomy of specific competitive intelligence products/ projects, delivered through information gathering, analysis, synthesis and report out.

  • Collaborate within SCI teams: Networking extensively to synergise & leveraging diverse inputs while building consensus to drive focus on consistently delivering high quality solutions.

  • Responsible for driving integration of information / viewpoints with several groups.

  • Bringing own strong subject matter expertise in one or more areas of the oil and gas value chain

  • Coach junior team members by providing guidance for day to day project delivery on subject matter or functional skills

  • Demonstrate and promote top quartile project delivery by strict adherence to quality framework and provide inputs for enhancing the framework.



  • Market research, data insights & financial analysis

  • Project delivery skills involving planning own work, delivering hands-on and coordinating with a wide set of teams

  • Awareness on key trends and geopolitics in Oil & Gas space

  • Direct exposure to O&G business, wider affinity with energy policies/regulatory aspects and working knowledge of financial statements would be a plus

  • Strategic & Independent Thinkers

  • Keen interest to understand the broad business objectives

  • Champions of structured problem-solving approach

Education and Experience

Commercial / Technical degree; MBA would be an advantage, but a sound industry experience can compensate for not having an MBA

7 - 12 years of professional experience in Oil & Gas related industries/ Oil & Gas related research / consulting. Exposure to an Upstream / Integrated Gas business through commercial / research / consulting role will be a significant advantage.

Awareness of key trends and geopolitics in the Oil & Gas space including Financial modelling and petroleum economics would be an advantage.
