Consultant is both pre-sales technical support and a product evangelist
for MySQL. The position requires public speaking, technical problem
solving, and the ability to communicate with programmers, DBAs, and
ideal candidate will possess both a business background that enables
them to drive an engagement and interact at the C level, as well as a
technical background that enables them to easily interact with software
developers, database administrators and architects. He/she should also
have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically
about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to
build and convey compelling value propositions, and work
cross-organizationally to build consensus. A keen sense of ownership,
drive, and interpersonal skills is a must.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Support achievement of sales monthly, quarterly and annual revenue objectives
Manage the technical element of selected customer/business partner sales cycles
Work with the Sales Executive to construct opportunity plans and TCO propositions
Reduce/eliminate technical obstacles to winning the technical recommendation.
Provide proof/reference points that proposed solutions are
architecturally sound, and operationally manageable for the customer
Provide Technical Account Management to key customers
Provide regular feedback to MySQL Marketing and Engineering on win/loss information
Work with selected MySQL Business Partners (Alliance, Reseller and SI Partners) to ensure their success.
Work closely with MySQL Professional Services to reach services revenue goals and ensure customer satisfaction
Contribute to User Group Events as required
Work with MySQL Marketing to conduct seminars, webinars, assist with
trade shows, and other marketing related events in territory
- Availability for global travel up 50%.
Experience working with MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, AWS databases other Cloud databases.
MBA or Masters highly desired; working knowledge of database
administration, software development practices and data center /
infrastructure / networking technologies highly desired.
Experience working and traveling independently
Experience with public speaking / conferences /meetups
Computer Science or Engineering preferred.
Writing samples highly preferred.

Provides direction and specialist knowledge in applying the technology/application to client business. Facilitation of customer product/application understanding through presentations demonstrations and benchmarks; provision of support throughout the sell.
As a Principal Sales Consultant you will be responsible as the expert for formulating and leading presales technical / functional support activity to prospective clients and customers while ensuring customer satisfaction. Acts as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced Sales Consultants. Focuses on large or complex sales opportunities that need creative and complex solutions. Develops productivity tools and training for other Sales Consultants. Develops and delivers outstanding Oracle presentations and demonstrations. Leads any and all aspects of the technical sales process. Advises internal and external clients on overall architect solutions.
Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. 3 years vendor (sales and marketing) experience. 7 years business experience with relevant computer applications or database/tools. Ability to implement the most advanced product features. Thorough knowledge of system and application design. In depth knowledge of competitors. Demonstrated project management skills. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills: needs analysis, positioning, business justification, closing techniques. Ability to persuade others through presentations, demonstrations, and written communication. Ability to travel as needed. A/BS degree or equivalent, advanced degree highly desirable.
