The Hertz Corporation SQL Database Developer in Bannockburn, Illinois

General Responsibilities

Summary: The SQL Database Engineer will participate in the development, design, and implementation of efficient, scalable, highly available database applications. They will assist the lead database developer on assigned database programming projects by gathering requirements, analyzing and designing database solutions, supporting application implementation, testing, and performing post go-live support. They will be required to manage timelines, ensure effective communication with key stakeholders, and produce a high-quality product to customers.


  • Design, develop, and implement complex database applications

  • Create and modify stored procedures, functions, queries, data models, and other necessary database objects to support software application needs

  • Develop and support ETL processes for data integration, data maintenance, and other customer project needs

  • Write and maintain functional and technical specifications

  • Work collaboratively in Scrum environment utilizing Agile tools i.e. JIRA

  • Coordinate with software engineers to develop technical solutions to address customer needs

  • Work with software engineers to performance tune inefficient database objects and SQL code

  • Assist production support and DBA team with operational issues during occasional on-call duties

  • Anticipate and address potential issues leveraging previous experience and strong problem solving skills

  • Utilize central remote GIT repository to move code through SDLC process


Mandatory Requirements

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent work experience


  • Experience in relational database design and database internals is required

  • 1-4 years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Server developer or similar role

  • 1-4 years of experience with T-SQL programming

  • 3 years of database programming experience preferred
