Verizon Big Data Engineer in Basking Ridge, New Jersey

What you’ll be doing...

The Financial Reporting, Analytics and Planning Solutions group is responsible for strategy and implementation of performance, decisions, and external reporting solutions that support essential finance activity for Verizon Groups with sales over $120 billion. You will be responsible for the technical design and implementation of complex use cases on the big data analytics platform and security compliance for the data lake.

  • Performing exploratory data analysis using the latest visualization and analytical tools.

  • Creating high level design documents and detail design documents and executing them.

  • Primary responsibility for the security compliance for the data lake.

  • Presenting findings and explaining results to management.

  • Filtering, aggregating and transforming data based on direction from SME's and data scientists.

  • Interfacing with various/complex stakeholder groups and functions.

  • Compliance to Verizon policies and procedures.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) best practices and methodologies, including Agile methodology.

  • Implementation experience in Hadoop and related big data technologies including Hive, Ranger, Scoop, Oozie.

  • Experience in SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, Unix and Shell Scripting.

  • Experience with configuration management and Agile development tools including Jira, Stash.

Even better if you have:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science.

  • Data management, analysis and visualization skills including knowledge of BI/BA platforms and visualization tools such as Qlik or Tableau.

  • Knowledge of Cloud technologies including Amazon Web services.

  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Capability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical teams.

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work with various/complex stakeholder groups & functions, & various levels of management.
