Purpose and Responsibilities

China is a key growth market for Shell Group and China Downstream New Business Development, Acquisitions & Divestment (DS NBD A&D) team is set up to drive inorganic growth for Shell in China focusing on Downstream and New Energies themes as guided by latest Shell Group business and country strategy. The team originates, develops and executes inorganic growth opportunities via new market entry, new business model, JV formation and restructuring, acquisitions and divestments, etc. In particular, China DS NBD A&D is tasked to drive flawless strategy execution and capture integrated value across different lines of businesses.

DS NBD Manager’s main responsibilities are to identify, assess, select, define and execute new inorganic growth opportunities, which include but are not limited to following:

  • Develop proactive approach to opportunity origination, including markets study, preliminary due diligence and assessment of deal value and risks.

  • Prioritize new opportunities and potential targets that fit business and country strategy.

  • Act as Business Opportunity Manager (BOM) for small deal or deal support for complex deal.

  • Ensure due diligence robustness for effective value/risk management, develop detailed business cases, prepare approval documentations, while ensuring strategic alignment and optimal use of scarce resources (capital and people).

  • Lead / support negotiations on contractual terms to deliver optimal value.

  • Manage implementation / integration phase for proper hand-over to business.

  • Manage relationship with external stakeholders (partners, industrial associations, government, etc.) for successful deal origination and delivery.

  • Ensure interfaces with line of businesses and functions (i.e. Strategy, Finance, Legal, HR, etc.) are engaged appropriately during various project phases for end-to-end value delivery and robust risk management.

*Dimensions :

  • Broad business dimensions in Downstream and New energies businesses are involved. The incumbent will have opportunity to directly contribute to both sustaining existing businesses’ profitable growth and positioning Shell to thrive in China’s energy transition.

  • An NBD manager could be involved in multiple deals at different deal stages (including lead and / or support roles) at any given time. To materialize each deal, extensive exposure to both internal senior leaders and external stakeholders is anticipated.

What we need from you

  • Seasoned commercial management professional with minimum 7-year working experience, including direct involvement in capital investment projects.

  • Able to think strategically, with sound understanding of oil/gas/renewable energy/power businesses and end-to-end energy value chain referred.

  • Commercial mindset, strong external focus seeking to maximize business opportunities.

  • Proven capability to translate financial analysis into negotiation strategies and recommendations with a sound understanding of financial modeling.

  • Track record of delivery, ability to overcome obstacles to deliver and a self-starter.

  • Experiences of negotiations with multiple counterparties to deliver complex deals.

  • Proven ability to create and manage effective relationship with external and internal stakeholders.

  • Proven project management skills.

  • Excellent in team work and able to collaborate across organization and geographical boundaries.

  • Chinese (Native) and English (High proficiency). An MBA from top program preferred.
