Our Psychometric & Research Services department has one or more jobopenings for the Senior Psychometrician positions. Pearson psychometriciansprovide the full range of psychometric support to large and small scale custom assessmentprograms, as well as develop innovative techniques and processes. We arelooking for candidates with drive and ambition who are seeking to make animpact as a psychometric practitioner, serving State Departments of Education, certification, and licensing organizations, and large school districts.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Designs psychometric solutions that meet customer needs while operating within the confines of the customer policy goals and budget. Appropriately advises the customer when their policy goals or budget changes.
Effectively expresses both business and scientific communications in written and oral form, such that they can be the first contact for psychometric issues for customers.
Adheres to the principles of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing; other applicable professional standards as dictated by the project assigned.
Designs and facilitates professional panel discussions such as standard setting workshops, job task analyses workshops, and item data reviews.
Directs junior staff and fulfills psychometric analyses including scaling, equating, item and test analyses, test construction (including CAT item pool assembly and configuration).
Designs the requirements of item pools for the purpose of assessment, evaluates existing pools for meeting those requirements, and advises clients and internal staff on improvement areas.
Designs psychometric procedures that meet the needs of a given program.
Ensures that psychometric work conforms to Pearson’s standards for data management and quality.
Designs solutions for cases where modern item formats (such as technology enhanced) and test designs are used.
Makes decisions on schedules and interacts with subject matter experts, technology staff, and program management staff to fulfill psychometric deliverable.
Keeps management informed on progress of projects. Makes reasoned decisions on when to alert management to issues.
Writes proposals and submits labor estimates for acquiring new business.
Travels, as required, to fulfill these responsibilities.
Education and Work Experience
Doctoral degree in educational measurement, industrial and organizational psychology, or a related field from a nationally recognized institution of higher education.
At least 5 years full-time experience in the testing industry serving in an equivalent role (education or certification and licensure).
Familiarity with Psychometric Techniques
Proven practical experience in implementing psychometric techniques for an operational testing program-including classical test theory, item response theory, test equating, and linking.
Has facilitated standard setting meetings and/or job task analysis meetings.
Has led an operational program, or component of a major program.
Has practical experience with assessment designs and practices such as computer adaptive testing, Bayesian inference networks, or multidimensional IRT.
Familiarity with data analysis methods that support assessment (e.g, data forensics) is a plus.
Is competent with SAS and/or R, and WINSTEPS. IRT Pro a plus.
Knowledge of Trends in Assessment
Is self-motivated to stay up-to-date on various state, national, or international trends in assessments.
Is a member of one or more professional organizations (e.g, NCME).
Is able to demonstrate communication skills (oral, written, and business) necessary to lead the psychometric function on a project.
Must be able to effectively write and communicate orally to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Candidates selected for interview must be prepared to provide writing samples and to give a job talk.
