Job Description

The Executive Director, ABX Business Consultant designs enterprise wide and/or cross-functional solutions to address business problems. This work results in initiatives that significantly impact company strategy enabling Aetna to be competitive in the marketplace and effectively serve its customers. Partners with business owners to optimize the achievement of strategic business objectives, to include profitable growth and improved organizational effectiveness. (Focus includes one or more of the following disciplines: Management consulting, business

process/project consulting, financial strategic analysis, mergers and acquisitions, strategic business planning, and, or risk management consulting). Management professionals develop and implement strategies and policies to direct our operations, subsidiaries, major projects and functional groups. They help our business units – and our company – meet corporate objectives and compete more successfully in the marketplace.

The ABX Business Consultation jobs are intended to be used ONLY for those performing this work as their primary job and who have the required Six Sigma business expertise. Facilitates on the development of enterprise and business unit strategic project plans utilizing the Lean Six Sigma operating system across the organization. Consults with leaders toward the implementation of business transformations to achieve operational excellence, employee engagement, cost reduction and customer satisfaction

Partners with senior leaders/executives of larger lines of business, corporate functions or critical lines of business with large productivity goals in order to impact business results and operational performance. Serves as thought leader in working with the most senior leadership to develop and deploy the ABX Business System to enable the business strategic project priorities. Identifies strategic opportunities and trends guided by strategy of the business or enterprise function in order to develop and recommend lean solutions. Provides leadership, strategic direction and influences all stakeholders to support projects/teams which develop lean solutions and/or key strategic plans for multiple large scale, complex projects. Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement and influences business leader(s) at the most senior level to implement solutions. Influences the leadership behaviors of senior business leaders based on ABX principles and expected leadership behaviors and commitments. Oversees and held accountable for, with the most senior business leadership, the success of multiple, complex ABX initiatives that span an enterprise function and/or large business unit(s) and deployment of the ABX business system. Drives ABX engagement process and builds optimal influential relationships with the most senior leadership in order to achieve results and deliverables. Accountable for transferring knowledge, ABX standards best practices (external and internal), and ABX methodology and tools to the most senior business leadership. Coach senior leaders on the ABX Business System. Partners with ABX BU lead and CFO to align CI roadmap to operating plan and savings target to ensure focus is on the priorities. Responsible for providing oversight and supervision to consulting team members and/or matrixed staff in support of ABX initiatives, as well as for providing direction and guidance to external vendors and external consultants.

Qualifications Requirements and Preferences:


  • Third Party/Strategic Partner management experience

  • Broad based health insurance experience, including Medicare, preferred

  • Leadership experience in operations or information technology

  • Demonstrated leadership experience with large scale initiatives in a Project Management Office environment

  • 12+ years experience with several of the following methodologies: management consulting, project consulting, business process consulting, financial strategic analysis, mergers and acquisitions, strategic business planning and/or risk management consulting

  • 12+ years leadership/management experience with large healthcare, insurance or financial services firms

  • Previous managerial experience required Team leadership and team building skills, Excellent Oral and written communication skills, Analytical and planning skills, Relationship and change management skills, Organizational skills & Critical thinking skills

  • Demonstrated relationship management skills at the senior level; capacity to quickly build and maintain credible relationships at varying levels of the organization simultaneously. Negotiation and influencing skills

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt


  • Master s degree preferred

  • Lean / Six Sigma Black Belt
