Under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer, the responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Assist senior engineers in conducting traffic engineering/safety studies, signal retiming studies, ITS feasibility studies, work zone safety/mobility
Analysis and preparing engineering reports to document the findings and recommendations; Ancillary duties include analyzing crash data to identify crash patterns and probable causes; developing collision and condition diagrams
Conducting field reviews to identify safety and operational issues
Developing improvements to enhance safety and traffic flow; preparing conceptual improvement drawings; evaluating signal timing/phasing and signal systems
Conducting traffic operational analysis using software such as HCS, SYNCHRO, CORSIM and VISSIM, and preparing drawings using Microstation; reviewing and developing ITS concepts related to TSM&O, managed lanes, work zone safety/mobility applications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in traffic or transportation engineering or other related field required
Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software
Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as of Land Desktop/AutoCAD, InRoads, InSite, and MicroStation)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred
MS in Civil Engineering (with emphasis in Transportation Engineering)
0 to 2 years of experience or related course work in traffic engineering, safety/operational studies, signal timing, ITS, work zone safety/mobility, roadway design;
Familiarity with reference manuals such as FDOT’s MUTS and Traffic Engineering Manuals; Highway Capacity Manual, MUTCD, and Highway Safety Manual, etc.
Familiarity with AUTOCAD or Microstation
Experience in traffic operational analysis such as HCS, SYNCHRO, CORSIM and VISSIM
