IBM Internship/Praktikum: Java Developer - Document Management in BOEBLINGEN, Germany

Your Role and Responsibilities

Internship/Praktikum: Java Developer for new applications in the document management space

We are constantly looking for students to develop software modules and automated test cases in Java or Python for our IBM StoredIQ and IBM's Unified Governance product portfolio. The IBM Unified Governance product portfolio helps our customers to cope with the huge amount of documents which are stored in various data sources of an enterprise. We offer solutions to help our customers with regulatory requirements like the European GDPR law, document analytics ( using traditional but also machine learning based techniques ) as well as organizing and structuring the sheer mass of information hidden in those documents.

The student will...

  • work independently on design and development of new software modules and/or test cases for IBM StoredIQ or other IBM products using agile development methodologies.

  • investigate on different potential approaches and existing software solutions or libraries for new modules or software testing.

  • interact with other developers, team leads, and architects to understand the broader context of his work.

  • present the result of this work to the overall development team.

The actual programming task will depend on skills and interest of the student selected for this position.

Our development team based in Boeblingen, Germany, is embedded into a larger world-wide team and works closely with other development labs in the US, Poland, India, and Japan. This constellation offers the opportunity to experience global, distributed development work while being integrated into a medium-sized local team.

We prefer students who can stay 6 months; shorter internships can be done on an exception basis only.

Required Skills:

  • Completed Vordiplom or Bachelor in Computer Science or related area

  • Knowledge of design patterns and development

  • Good programming skills in Java

  • Either fluent english or german: written and spoken.

Helpful but not required skills:

  • Programming skills in Python and / or JavaScript are a plus

  • Understanding and implementing REST APIs is a plus

  • Experience with Linux administration/shell are a plus

  • Knowledge in Docker, Kubernetes are a plus

  • Knowledge of continuous integration pipeline products like Jenkins and Travis CI are a plus

  • Knowledge of tools for web application test automation (e.g. Selenium, Katalon, Puppeteer) are a plus

  • Knowledge of Eclipse as a development environment is a plus

  • Experience in software development and/or test, in J2EE technologies are a plus
