Bolivia has significant discovered and undiscovered hydrocarbon resources in the sub-Andean fold and thrust belt of the Chaco Basin.
Shell has aspirations to grow further in Bolivia.
As a key member of the Exploration team, the Senior Structural Geologist will be responsible for delivering and managing subsurface studies and supporting drilling and seismic operations in the Caipipendi and Huacareta blocks as well as future licenses.
Interfacing and managing internal and external technical service providers within and outside Shell Bolivia, such as Contractors, Specialist Service Providers, Partners, the Regulator and Representatives of Government of Bolivia is an integral part of the role.
Is accountable for the HSSE aspects related to exploration studies and operations.
Deliver exploration work consistent with Shell business principles.
Drive Goal Zero and Life Saving Rule implementation, and influence other internal and external stakeholders to adopt these practices.
Act as an Exploration Technical Subject Matter Expert for Structural Geology and lead for a specific exploration projects and concessions.
Carry out regional and prospect specific evaluations, including the construction of structural and geological models, interpretation of 2D/3D seismic data to produce a high quality subsurface evaluation.
Prepare auditable volumes and risking for prospects according to Shell methodology, including the construction and oversight of well proposals and evaluation reports.
Lead geoscience and structural geology technology deployment in Bolivia.
Support ranking of the exploration portfolio, based on economic metrics and criteria.
Take an active part in assurance reviews, partner meetings, and the engagement with the regulator and local authorities on exploration matters.
Pro-actively coach junior staff and transfer regional geological knowledge to Shell exploration community.
Accountable for the full documentation of the exploration products.
Manage the structural database and geological models in compliance with Shell procedures.
Master and/or PhD in Geology or Geophysics
10-15 years of experience as a Senior Geoscientist
Seasoned geoscientist with strong experience in structural geology, geophysical interpretation, 2D and 3D subsurface modeling, regional studies, prospect maturation, volumetrics and risking
In-depth knowledge of the Sub-Andean basin
Proven geological and geophysical experience in Fault Thrust Belt system
Experience in Petrophysics will be considered as a plus
Experience in well design and drilling operation in the Sub-Andean basin
Demonstrated commitment to HSSE
Strong coaching skills for Junior staff
Track record of leading exploration projects maturation
Team player with a capacity to interface seamlessly with other functions (operation, well engineering, finance, development, legal, commercial HR).
Strong communication in Spanish and English
Adapt to change and eager to learn Shell tools, processes and systems
Member ofBolivia Exploration Team, the position reports to the Bolivia Exploration Portfolio Team Leader.
The position provides the opportunity to:
Deliver the full spectrum of integrated evaluations at regional level from plays to prospects up to recommending and supporting exploration seismic and drilling operations.
Drive structural geology expertise and share learnings across other Shell Exploration regions and Exploration Themes such as the Fold & Thrust Belt task force.
Broaden skills in active coaching and development of team members and geoscience technology deployment.
Represent Shell expertise with external stakeholders and liaise with Shell global experts and community.
