Company Job Title: Systems Administrator II

Reports To: Project Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt, Full Time, Regular


The Systems Administrator II is responsible for responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of Blackboard Learn system and components. The Systems Administrator II seeks to ensure that the uptime at , performance at , resources at , and security at of the Learn system meets the needs of the users at within budgetary guidance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, upgrade at , and configure Learn system hardware and software components and software to achieve user requirements

  • Provide routine updates, patches and configuration changes

  • Monitor and maintain security policies

  • T roubleshoot at and resolve problems

  • Offer technical support at for projects (add, remove, update user accounts, resets passwords, etc.)

  • Ensure data integrity

  • Ensure efficiency and performance of the systems

  • Assist in configuration documentation

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Bachelor's Degree OR 2 years of relevant experience in Information Technology or related field in lieu of degree

  • 2 years’ experience in the following:

  • Installing, configuring, troubleshooting and integrating enterprise applications, either custom built or COTS.

  • Windows and UNIX basic administration, including installing, upgrading, maintaining and troubleshooting the operating system.

  • Client-facing capacity.

  • 1 years of experience in SQL Server and/or Oracle (10g or higher) administration, including installing, upgrading and troubleshooting database issues.

  • Experience performing enterprise application hardware and software architecture design.

  • DoD Top Secret security clearance with ability to obtain SCI

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to obtain Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance

  • Preferred experiences:

  • Consulting

  • Education or knowledge management industry and e-learning technologies, including at least one year specifically with Blackboard technologies.

  • Desired: written and spoken fluency in another language than English

  • Spanish preferred

  • Desired: Windows or UNIX certification

  • Desired: SQL Server or Oracle certification

  • Working knowledge of database design and the SQL language.

  • Strong analytical and consulting skills.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, excellent work ethic and drive, great interpersonal skills, team oriented, and demonstrated problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with geographically distributed virtual teams and to build relationships with internal and external organizations.

  • Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills, and ability to manage expectations effectively when handling multiple assignments simultaneously with competing deadlines.

  • Proven ability to learn new technologies as needed.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and mentoring skills.

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.

  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
