Merck Associate Director Preclinical Imaging Informatics Lead in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description

Our IT team operates as a business partner proposing ideas and innovative solutions that enable new organizational capabilities. We collaborate internationally to deliver the services and solutions that help everyone to be more productive and enable innovation.

This position is accountable for enablement of the research sites imaging infrastructure to enable efficient, effective operations of the Discovery, Preclinical and Early Development laboratories. Develop a holistic support strategy for imaging efforts across the network to enable strategic business outcomes, and work in partnership with our research laboratories IT engineering, Global Technology Operations, contracts, and others to execute and deliver on these needs.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide ongoing IT support and automation for imaging modalities, High Content Imaging, Digital Pathology, Translational Imaging, Cytometry

  • Provide Columbus expertise and support for scientists & support

  • Develop tier 1 level support at each site for imaging modality support

  • Coordinate with facilities on capital projects and planning related to laboratory moves at the Boston locations

  • Provide expertise to scientific staff when new capital imaging purchases are planned

  • Boston site our research laboratories-IT lead

  • Coordinate with our IT laboratory services teams to understand and act on synergies for lab and site based HCI support

  • Responsible for imaging systems at SSF, WP, KW/RY, BOS/CAM, LON

  • Responsible for Perkin Elmer support contract and AMS SLA

Education Requirements

  • Masters degree

Required Skills/Experience

  • 10+ years in all stages of exploratory, large scale, complex, and validated research informatics workflows utilizing high content imaging platforms, expertise in Cellomics and Perkin Elmer HCS software and back end systems supporting them

  • Significant experience with at least one other imaging modality/platform

  • Hands on experience with Linux, Network design/maintenance, automation, storage. Technical leadership – laboratory IT, networking, storage and computing in an experimental research context; experience with data integrity

  • Ethics and integrity


  • DICOM experience

  • Cytometry, Medical Imaging, Optical Imaging, Digital Pathology, HALO Platform

  • Various image formats

  • Statistical Analysis/Analytics, i.e. Spotfire, etc.

  • Various data formats and storage systems

  • SDLC experience

  • CIIP

  • Ph.D. + 10 years HCI experience + 15 years HCI experience preferred
