Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally. Our nine major business lines include Business Banking, Middle Market Banking, Government and Institutional Banking, Corporate Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Financial Institutions Group, Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, Wells Fargo Securities, and the Investment Portfolio. We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

In addition to managing a portfolio of names while retaining Sr. Portfolio Manager responsibilities, including:

  • Maintain and monitor pipeline of new and renewal transactions and ensure resources are appropriately allocated to complete due diligence and documentation on a timely basis

  • For complex/high visibility transactions, meet with deal teams throughout underwriting process as a resource for strategic approach, underwriting direction and a focus on consistency

  • Ongoing resource management and allocation in reaction to complex and/or high-profile transactions and Portfolio Manager (PM)/Analyst deal flow and timing

  • Resource to Regional Vice President (RVP)/Division Manager for information flow; deal timing, PM/Analyst staffing, transaction issues/challenges, Risk Management issues, etc. Elevate potential challenges early

  • Managing the on-site Analysts/Jr. PMs

  • Cover operational/reporting requirements for the office

  • Point person for audits, RAR, SNC and other internal reporting/management needs

  • Mentor/train/support the Analysts/ Jr. PMs. Act as a sounding board, resource, and mentor to deal teams for underwriting strategies, deal positioning, and relationship management strategies etc.

  • Direct risk management dialogue to PMs while providing guidance/perspective to ensure PMs develop their own credibility. Balance fine line between developing/supporting PMs as a resource and getting “hands dirty”, when necessary to preserve the consistency and quality of the underwriting, including effective communication

  • Focus on driving efficiency in the underwriting processes by ensuring divisional offices are underwriting, presenting, etc. in a consistent, appropriately detailed and thoughtful manner

  • Single point of contact for information management, reporting, etc.

  • Responsible for on-site Analyst hires, involved in Jr. PM and Sr. PM hires across the division where necessary. Provide consistency in recruiting to attract talent to the division sites

  • Involved in all complex/large deals. Help to ensure PMs have resources to leverage, stand ready to assist with CR/Screen development, internal communication, timing management, etc.

  • Act as credit action coordinator for RVP/Division Manager given their broad responsibilities over multiple offices. Assist RVP/Division Manager in providing early stage guidance on names to screen, press forward, back-off, discuss commitment levels, credit management recommendations, etc.

  • Broader communication of deal trends, industry issues, etc. to be a quick point of information and reference for divisions offices. Connect RMs/PMs to other deals/offices to coordinate consistent underwriting and presentations

  • Monitor broader portfolio for any macro trends. Review risk ratings for broad consistency to minimize SNC/RAR issues proactively

  • Act as a leader in the business in approach to all stakeholders: clients, Loan Supervisors, Sr. Management, Analysts, Associate Relationship Managers, product partners etc.

There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements./

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relationship management experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience building and maintaining effective relationships with customers and internal partners

  • Experience with large, corporate, or commercial banking customers

  • Sales and marketing experience; or credit and portfolio management

  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of product areas such as; treasury management, debt capital markets, interest rate, commodity risk management, foreign exchange, loan syndications, asset management, or leasing

  • Effective organizational, multi tasking, and prioritizing skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Leadership and influence skills
