Job Information

Merck Senior Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description

Our Research Scientists are our Inventors. We identify and target steps in disease mechanisms or pathways that could be inhibited or enhanced. Our goal is to isolate a compound that is effective against a disease target. Using innovative thinking, state-of-the-art facilities and robust scientific methodology we collaborate to discover the next medical breakthrough.

We are recruiting a highly motivated Senior Scientist with strong molecular immunology background and expertise in flow-based cell analysis and sorting to join the Protein Sciences Boston, Discovery Biologics to discover novel antibodies by in vitro display technologies. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in Biology and Biologics teams at our company's Research Laboratories to champion projects and directly contribute to antibody discovery campaigns through lab-facing activities. The primary responsibility of Senior Scientist for this position is to identify, optimize, and engineer antibodies or binding proteins using in vitro display platform, such as Adimab yeast display technology. She/he will design antibody or binding protein selection and screening strategy for the desired specificity, affinity, functionality, and developability properties. In addition, the candidate will have an opportunity to explore novel protein-based or cellular modalities for the development of immune modulatory therapy. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of molecular engineering and a strong understanding human antibody repertoire, immune cell signaling and phenotypes, and the landscape of immune modulation. Experience in high-throughput selection and screening for biologics is a plus. She/he will be expected to apply essential molecular and cell biology skills to generate drug candidates that meet the design specifics.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for isolating and optimizing antibodies or binding proteins from yeast display libraries.

  • Exploring novel platform modalities for immune therapy

  • Take the lead within the laboratory and serve as subject matter expert

  • Execute experiments with automation methods using liquid handling equipment

  • Manage data within the project, collate and present the results in team meetings

  • Maintain a timely and accurate laboratory record of all activities

  • Work within a multidisciplinary and cross-functional team to advance biologics lead candidates

Required Qualifications

  • PhD within Biological Sciences (Immunology, Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering); or MSc with significant and relevant experience

  • Proficiency in flow cytometry including analysis, immune phenotyping and single cell sorting

  • Experience in the studies of humoral or cellular immunity

  • Proficiency in molecular biology skills
