Pearson Senior UX Writer in Boston, Massachusetts

Senior UX Writer

At Pearson, we’re committed to a world that’s always learning and to our talented team who makes it all possible. From bringing lectures vividly to life to turning textbooks into laptop lessons, we are always re-examining the way people learn best, whether it’s one child in our own backyard or an education community across the globe. We are bold thinkers and standout innovators who motivate each other to explore new frontiers in an environment that supports and inspires us to always be better. By pushing the boundaries of technology — and each other to surpass these boundaries — we create seeds of learning that become the catalyst for the world’s innovations, personal and global, large and small.

Help shape the future of digital learning

We’re looking for an experienced UX writer who is passionate about user experience design and education and wants to help shape the development of Pearson’s digital products. An advocate for UX writing as part of the design process, you know the nuances of championing the best solution for our users. You can comfortably make suggestions about the design when needed and use the right words in the right place.

We’re more than just a team

We’re a design culture of curiosity, imagination, and diversity. We’re musicians, artists, novelists, poets, cyclists, teachers, and pet lovers. And at the end of the day, we’re inspired by each other and the work we do to improve lives and shape futures for the millions of instructors and students who use our products across the globe.

Your untypical day

No two days are ever the same. You’ll be writing UI copy for new features for both students and instructors, as well as maintaining existing user interface copy. You might also be creating videos or writing other kinds of copy to support our products. As you create new learning experiences or update existing ones, you’ll work with a variety of teams in a variety of ways.

You’ll think and rethink, explore, imagine, and innovate. Some of the ways you might spend your day:

● Working alongside designers and researchers to collaborate on the design and user tests

● Creating a strategy for the content design

● Observing our designs in action through user testing, particularly keeping an eye out for language implications

● Learning about our user communities and messaging with product managers and product marketers

● Interacting with learning design to better understand how students learn and instructors teach

● Talking with product teams to learn about the technical aspects of the product and customer pain points

● Writing clear, concise content, making language choices supported by research and considering voice and tone

● Potentially creating videos and writing some longer-form content

● Teaming with other writers to create standards and product content strategy

● Supporting other writers in creating the very best copy we can

We can't wait to create with you because you have

● A portfolio of UX writing that shows before-and-after examples of your work.

● Experience working with cross-functional teams that include UX designers, researchers, and product managers.

● A foundational understanding of user-centered design techniques and how to apply them

● Excellent communication, presentation, and persuasion skills.

● A high level of familiarity with wireframing and brainstorming tools, such as Invision, Sketch, and Mural.

● The ability to give and receive feedback with poise and empathy.

● The ability to work gracefully in a fluid, iterative (Agile) environment, and to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.

● A passion for language and excellent grammar and writing skills, but also a feel for when to break the rules. Impeccable attention to detail underpins it all.

● Experience applying usability, accessibility, and globalization concepts to the writing process.

● A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, design, or equivalent professional experience.

● 4-5 years of experience writing UX copy for technical, procedural, and conceptual materials.

● Bonus points

o Experience writing for the educational community (instructors, students, and administrators)

o Experience using JIRA

o Experience creating videos

o Knowledge of web and mobile accessibility
