Merck Web Developer – Pharmacology - Boston, MA in Boston, Massachusetts

This role in the Pharmacology team will support drug discovery at our Company's Research and Development (R&D) laboratories, focusing on developing and implementing web applications, API’s and other software tools that enable scientist to keep track of their studies and experiments as well as analyze their data more effectively and with greater insight. The candidate is expected to establish a development environment that supports testing and final deployment to a cloud application platform. The candidate will work closely with other scientists within the department and across functional teams, supporting research programs in Oncology, Metabolic Disease, Neuroscience and Infectious Disease.

Required Skills:

  • Proven ability with Full Stack development framework

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and the ability to collaborate and multitask

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to function and communicate effectively in a highly productive multi-disciplinary environment are a must

Preferred Skills:

  • Two years of experience in developing web applications with a modern web application framework such as Django or Ruby on Rails

  • Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL or Oracle based relational databases

  • Expertise with Python or Ruby or another modern programming language

  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS/Sass, JavaScript ES6 and a modern web application frame work

  • Interest in gaining working experience in the pharmaceutical research area and a real desire to make an impact on how efficient scientists can generate and analyze their data

  • Expertise with version control, and familiarity with test driven development

  • Familiarity with R would also be preferred


  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Bioinformatics or related field.
