Merck Associate Director, Test Platform Development & Support in Branchburg, New Jersey

Job Description

The Development Lead is responsible for the overall development and support activities within Global Testing Services group that modernizes and maintains our Company's Testing Platform. This role is responsible for delivering core capabilities on our testing platform, software, and services to enable our Company’s testing teams to test on a global basis; lead the team in architecting, designing, developing, and supporting the platform; lead the continued support for existing applications; oversee software implementation initiatives and software updates; provide strategic leadership to all aspects of the group’s projects and activities; work with project personnel to develop project standards, frameworks, and performance metrics; adhere to our Company's SDLC, deadlines and budgets for all project work; prepare and manage financial targets, budgets, and road maps; development a 3 year plan and capability assessments in close collaboration with the Global Testing Service LT; research new techniques with respect to testing technology and practices; implement testing capabilities that aligned to the testing and software development organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Single point of accountability and technology advisor to Global Testing Service group, with a global footprint across our Company’s IT Hub mode

  • Leads technology strategy development in close collaboration with Global Testing Service LT, including creating the 3 year plan and capability assessments.

  • Ensures systems are current (IT security) and robust (redundancy, scalability) and include latest features driving compliance in a heavily regulated business area.

  • Manages execution of technology road map with direct oversight of the development team and directs virtual teams.

  • Manages technology platform for Global Testing Services like a business owner, owning portfolio forecasts and monthly financial management activities, efficiency into teams and utilization of resourcing including consumption of licenses and 3rd party spend.

  • Coordinates external engagement and external innovation; ensure market trends are integrated into road map and communicated.

  • Responsible for delivering development and validation artifacts, ensuring high quality standards, and audit readiness.

Education Level:

Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, Math or related field

Experience/Technical Skills:

  • Minimum 7 years applied work experience as a leader in software development and testing. Experience managing distributed teams.

  • Significant experience in managing Development and Testing teams which are comprised of both internal and external resources located on and off-shore.

  • Demonstrated experience in automated test framework design and development

  • Deep knowledge and experience with implementation of various testing methodologies and test automation tools and techniques

  • Proficient with Water fall and Agile testing methodologies and best practices

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to influence and lead an organization through a cultural change

  • Strong knowledge of QA methodologies and tools, with demonstrated experience in Agile, CI and DevOps

  • Strong understanding of quality assurance testing tools and methodologies with a focus on automation

  • Able to provide thought leadership on Quality Assurance and Quality Engineering concepts

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills necessary to implement policy and initiatives

  • Ability to motivate others and lead toward successful goal completion

  • Has worked with technology stacks and tools in the past:

  • Atlassian tools (Jira, Stash/Bitbucket, Bamboo, etc.), Jenkins

  • HP ALM, Performance Center

  • Familiarity with common test frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, Robot framework, Tosca, etc.)

  • Familiarity with TDD/BDD and tools (e.g Cucumber, etc.)

  • Mobile tech stack: Swift, Objective-C, Android, iOS

  • Has implemented best practices across multiple areas of software testing:

  • Unit, functional, and integration test

  • Performance, load/stress, failure test

  • Code coverage, static analysis

  • Security modeling (SDL/Threat modeling) and test
