POSITION OVERVIEW

TheCoding Manager - Practiceis a key member of the Physician Practice and provides billing and coding expertise to ensure all patients receive high quality, efficient care.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Coordinates employees’ schedules.

  • Educates and cross-trains coders.

  • Conducts in-service meetings, educational programs, and conferences to enhance professional growth and development.

  • Coordinates and reconciles multiple surgical schedules to ensure complete charge capture .

  • Reviews and codes complex operative procedures for surgical practices.

  • Works in conjunction with Accounts Receivable team on follow-up and resolution of coding related denials and rejections.

  • Tracks denial patterns for physician practices to address systemic issues.

  • Assists and directs the practice or other appropriate staff in surgical documentation, billing, coding, and reimbursement issues.

  • Monitors coders/AR to ensure the designated productivity and accuracy rate of 95%.

  • Assists in auditing of surgical practices.

  • Responsible for coding staff and tracking of hours of courses for compliance deadlines.

  • Performs related work and projects as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

This position requires the following minimal requirements:

  • Knowledge of surgical coding and reimbursement practices/strategies.

  • Knowledge of eCW billing system and/or other related billing system.

  • Familiar with third party fee profiles and reimbursement requirements.

  • Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieveorganizational objectives.

  • Aptitude for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with physicians, clinic staff, and other Physician Services departments and personnel.

  • Must be computer literate, including Microsoft Excel and Word skills.

  • Experience with 3M encoding product or Encoder Pro preferred.

  • Must be detail-oriented and able to meet targeted deadlines.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of surgical practice coding and regulatory compliance.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum three years of experience in surgical coding and/or reimbursement activities is required.

  • Clinical background and previous chart abstraction experience is preferred.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE

  • Must be a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P), RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician), RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) through AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) or AAPC's (American Academy of Professional Coders) Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) credential or Certified Professional Coder – Hospital (CPC-H®)
