GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Senior Clinical Informaticist position is responsible for the successful creation and implementation of a standardized clinical content program for the Ambulatory EHR. This will include the creation and facilitation of a content management process, the facilitation of clinical content development, and the ongoing support of a standard clinical content model. Clinical content will include templates, order sets, disease management and any clinical content builds utilized for the successful implementation and use of the application. The position requires solid clinical knowledge and the ability to facilitate and communicate discussions built around specialty content development within the EHR application.

The Senior Clinical Informaticist is also responsible for clinical workflow development and recommendations for practice users. He/she will serve as the clinical expert for the use of EHR and suggest workflows to enhance practice efficiency, streamlined provider/staff documentation, and patient throughput. He/she will work closely with the Physician Services Group (PSG) Chief Medical Information Officer and PSG Information Technology & Systems (IT&S) departments to stay abreast of new system releases and create workflows for new/enhanced functionality.

The Senior Clinical Informaticist also assists with facilitation for EHR implementation efforts, for both centrally-led implementations and division-led implementations, from a clinical content and workflow recommendation perspective. Depending on the specialty, he/she may be required to build new content within the system to accommodate a new practice or provider’s transition to our HCA-hosted version of eClinicalWorks EHR. The Senior Clinical Informaticist will also assist in optimization efforts/projects and provide clinical expertise for more efficient use of the EHR.


  • Works full time to support the EHR program with a focus on the Ambulatory EHR; coordinates and implements a broad range of standard content for outpatient clinicians, ensuring and supporting a consistent focus on physicians and their specialty

  • Establishing best practices and guidingprinciples for contentdevelopment, use, and maintenance within a common EHR framework

  • Collaborates with Clinical Services Group (CSG) partners to ensure HCA’s clinical initiatives are front and center during PSG’s EHR implementation initiative and ongoing rollout of new functionality and process enhancements

  • Able to develop and facilitate the content design process and ongoing maintenance process

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with clinicalprofessionals and other stakeholders across the enterprise by recruiting clinicians' leadership, input, and buy-in for the content design and maintenance process

  • Facilitates effective communication among all team members to ensure comprehensive understanding of needs, expectations, and requirements

  • Evaluation of possible clinical content sources to establish best possible starting point for the development of HCA clinical contentincluding disease management, goals and outcomes

  • Collaborate with Director on the design, development and maintenance of clinical quality content, reporting and workflow solutions for ambulatory EHR applications to meet compliance and contractual requirements, including government programs, HCA initiatives, and corporate/division/facility requirements

  • Able to effectively guide clinicalresources through the design ofstandard content

  • Able to serve as a clinical content subject matter expert and represent multiple specialties for clinical aspects of eClinicalWorks EHR including clinical workflows and documentation requirements to capture government programs and quality needs

  • Collaborate with IT&S, PSG, and other stakeholders to help define the useand integration of HCA's standard content into clinical applications,including documentation of master file build, change management, and training materials

  • Focused on providing high-quality clinical analysis and support to all of the AEHR team and PSG eClinicalWorks users

  • Able to identify risks and opportunities regarding the design, implementation, and future use of standard content across the enterprise

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with clinical champions and other stakeholders across the enterprise by working with Director and division EHR teams to recruit clinicians’ leadership, input, and buy-in for the content, quality, and workflow design and maintenance process

  • Collaborate on the development of best practices and guiding principles for content development, use, and maintenance within a common EHR framework

  • Content will initially focus on multispecialty clinician documentation via templates as well as standard inpatient and outpatient order set design, but will also include areas such as patient education, clinical references, standard nomenclatures, and decision support design

  • Participate in the creation of clinical implementation toolkits for deployment across ambulatory facilities

  • Assist with defining reports for disease management and clinical outcomes

  • Assist, and support EHR team leads and members in the implementation of the specialty content, including onsite support and providing documentation for preparation, status and issues to various parts of the organization including senior management, CSG, PSG, division and facility executives/leadership as requested

  • Assist with medication management in the EHR, as directed by the Ambulatory Clinical Informatics Pharmacist and/or CSG Pharmacy team

  • Assist in medication safety and risk reduction projects

  • Serve as an application expert for the clinical components of the EHR

  • Provide recommendations for the effectiveness of trainingstrategies and materials and recommends changes

  • Participates in the definition of project success criteria and definesmetrics to be collected, analyzed and reported

  • Participates in the development of optimization tools, from a clinicalperspective


  • Bachelor's Degree is required

  • Master's Degree or higher preferred


  • At least 5 years clinical experience preferably in ambulatory care

  • RN, PharmD, or other clinical degree preferred with experience in multi-specialty areas

  • 3 or more years clinical experience with supervisory and managerial responsibilities preferred

  • Experience in training providers and their staff

  • Experience in the project management and implementation of Ambulatory EHR system(s) preferred

  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of EHR systems

  • Travel up to 20%
