Aetna is taking on a major initiative to redesign and rebuild many of its customer facing digital assets. This effort will include a completely new approach to building software within Aetna, using the latest design approaches, technologies, and processes. Aetna Digital, a newly formed startup like business unit within Aetna, will design, build and deliver completely new and integrated digital experiences for our users.
The Lead Data Engineer will be developing systems that process, store and serve data for use by others. Maximizes the utilizations of data to generate insights and address business needs. Leads and participates in the design, built and management of large scale data structures and pipelines and efficient Extract/Load/Transform (ETL) workflows. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of technical experience with strong SQL background and excellent knowledge of programming languages like Java, Python, Scala and PySpark.
The candidate should demonstrate ability to remove problems and overcome roadblocks during the project. The candidate should also have good verbal and written communication skills
Develops large scale data structures and pipelines to organize, collect and standardize data that helps generate insights and addresses reporting needs. Writes ETL (Extract / Transform / Load) processes, designs database systems and develops tools for real-time and offline analytic processing. Collaborates with advanced analytics and application to transform data and integrate algorithms and models into automated processes. Uses knowledge in Hadoop architecture, HDFS commands and experience designing & optimizing queries to build data pipelines. Uses strong programming skills in Python, Java or any of the major languages to build robust data pipelines and dynamic systems. Defines and designs data models to support designated use cases. Integrates data from a variety of sources, assuring that they adhere to data quality and accessibility standards. Analyzes current information technology environments to identify and assess critical capabilities and recommend solutions. Experiments with available tools and advises on new tools in order to determine optimal solution given the requirements dictated by the model/use case.
8 or more years of progressively complex related experience. 5 or more years experience working on commercially available software and or healthcare platforms 1 or more years experience developing solutions hosted within public cloud providers and leveraging container based technologies Expert experience leading and mentoring teams in Big Data Technologies Has strong knowledge of large scale search applications and building high volume data pipelines. Multiple years of experience delivery solutions through an Agile delivery methodology Expert knowledge of data modeling and understanding of different data structures and their benefits and limitations under particular use cases Experience building data transformation and processing solutions Expert knowledge in Hadoop architecture, HDFS commands and experience designing & optimizing queries against data in the HDFS environment. Knowledge in Java, Python, Hive, Cassandra, Pig, MySQL or NoSQL or similar. Expert knowledge in streaming solutions and usage of technologies, such as Kafka Knowledge of Scala and PySpark Knowledge of cloud based storage environments, technologies and frameworks, such as those enabled through AWS or Azure Experience with bash shell scripts, UNIX utilities & UNIX Commands. Ability to understand complex systems and solve challenging analytical problems. Ability to leverage multiple tools and programming languages to analyze and manipulate data sets from disparate data sources. Strong collaboration and communication skills within and across teams. Strong problem solving skills and critical thinking ability. Experience in the healthcare industry
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Master's degree.
