Job Summary

The Environmental Manager, Botswana will be working in conjunction with E&GE Managing Director, Africa and E&GE Operations Director, Africa to project manage large Environmental Engineering projects in Botswana and the region. The role requires:

  1. the development and leadership of a team of technical and sector specialists, to execute projects as well as to win and successful deliver projects across the region.

  2. driving growth and sale of AECOM’s services for all business lines and across all market sectors within the region, aligned with regional strategy.

  3. building strong relationships and interacts regularly with key existing and new clients, teaming partners, industry groups and stakeholders linked to the region.

  4. active collaboration with AECOM’s overall E&GE team for growth.

  5. delivering high quality, innovative solutions to our clients.

You should be a recognized thought leader that develops, articulates and leads the execution of value creation strategies for our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of the business strategy in the Botswana.

  • Compile or Review contracts and tender submissions

  • Identify and lead key pursuits; develop successful win strategies.

  • Lead client relationship/business development activities through early interaction, “scope of work” development, and on-going client maintenance interface.

  • Responsible for developing market sector intelligence including industry assessment, trends in key markets and client opportunities for investment and winning work.

  • Ensure that projects are delivered within the client budget and schedule; ensure that projects are delivered with the agreed fee and the stated profit.

  • Interface with clients on schedules, meetings and issues (manage client expectations).

  • Advise senior E&GE management of the project status on a regular basis.

  • Anticipate potential schedule or priority delays and initiate plans for alternative actions.

Minimum Requirements

Experiencing:

  • Minimum 10 – 15 years related experience in project management and project execution of environmental engineering / civil infrastructure projects.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Experienced and solid network in the built and natural environment

  • Recognised as an industry expert who would bring added credibility at critical stages of the project lifecycle

  • Ability to develop key and trusted client relationships that can lead to new business quickly.

  • Demonstrated skills and track record in marketing and business development, including market strategy development, competitive assessment, market positioning and market strategy execution.

  • Proven strategic skills; experienced with the development and execution of business and marketing strategies.

  • Experience influencing and managing senior level stakeholders.

  • Excellent presentation skills.

  • Solid verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

  • Effective negotiation and dispute resolution skills, analytical and decision-making.

  • Liaison and consultative skills applied within a context of political sensitivity and conflicting interests; includes the view of others in decisions.

  • Demonstrated collaborative skills, both internally and externally.

  • Ability to advise on complex matters to non-specialists.

  • Project, Programme and Construction Management procedure definition and implementation.

  • Best practice for subject disciplines schedule, cost, information, risk, reporting, integration, change management, configuration management, and delay analysis.

  • Earned value analysis and Critical Path Analysis.

  • Knowledge of business practices associated with project/construction management.

  • Ability to interpret scope guidance and contractual agreements to determine the responsibilities of both the delivery team and the Client/Employer.

  • Ability to interpret diagrammatic representations of workflow.

  • Ability to interact with users, ability to communicate, comprehend, interpret, articulate, and define technical solutions as well as the ability to accurately document technical design information.

  • Ability to lead a team toward proficiency in support and delivery of project management.

  • Ability to set goals and objectives and measure progress towards their achievement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering.

  • Relevant Master’s degree would be an advantage.

  • Registration with the Engineers Registration Board of Botswana.
