The ER Tech provides patient care through delegated and assigned tasks such as, but not limited to, the outlined essential functions such as EKGs, phlebotomy, clerical tasks, etc. Communicates with other members of the Emergency Department team through written documentation or oral communication.

Essential Functions: Performs basic procedures and care interventions as delegated by the RN within scope of practice including but not limited to the following: Vital Signs, I&O, Patient Transfers, Assist with Toileting, ADLs, transporting diagnostic specimens, compressions during Code Blue events, and light housekeeping duties after discharge of patients.

  • Performs intermediate procedures as delegated by the RN within scope of practice that includes but are not limited to: EKGs, Removal of IV Catheters, Removal of Foley Catheters, and Finger Stick Blood Sugars.

  • Participates and assists with the flow of ER patient chart. Assembles and maintains patient charts; places appropriate ER admission forms in chart and requests/ obtains patient medical records as necessary.

  • Performs unit secretary duties.

  • Demonstrates ability to collect and monitor data as per scope of practice related to patient status as delegated by the RN within scope of practice. Demonstrates ability to document data collected.

  • Demonstrates customer service and communication skills. Utilizes telephone etiquette and quality communication with patient and family members; responds to staff and physician requests appropriately; and relays messages in a timely an accurate manner. Facilitates positive interdepartmental communication.

  • Assists with maintaining supplies and equipment for the department either by notification to appropriate staff member, charge nurse or ordering when supplies are needed.

  • Participates in disaster preparedness activities. Serves as a trained member of the Emergency Department's hazardous materials decontamination team. Knowledge of decontamination set-up and response procedures.

  • Trains, mentors and precepts new ED Techs. May participate in staff panel interviews at the discretion of the Director.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

HS Diploma or GED Required.

One of the following certifications: CNA, MA or EMT. Completion of required educational program for certification.

BLS Required

1-2 years of acute care experience preferred.

Ability to collect and report data and information related to patient care; ability to deliver safe effective patient care

within established scope of practice; ability to interact and communicate with various individuals and departments

within the organization; excellent computer skills; ability to prioritize multiple activities and program solve with

assistance of supervisory staff.
