OB Tech/C.N.A: Women's Services Unit

Delivers accurate and timely support services to the department Director and designated clinical unit through planned and organized work assignments, following established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Working under the supervision of a nursing, the Patient Care Tech performs various patient care activities necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The position's tasks and responsibilities include:

Directs the flow of the patient's medical record throughout stay. This includes assembling of chart upon admission During and throughout patient admission monitors need for additional documents needed in chart including intake and output records on designated charts and documents that arrive via printer or inner office mail that are chart specific. At completion of patient stay, is responsible to break chart down, organize and route to Medical Record department.

Assists with paperwork flow. This includes but is not limited to the following; preparing copies of transfer paperwork, placing discharge instructions in the designated mail route, notifying Care Coordination of any information that pertains to the needs of their patients.

Performs general office duties including, but not limited to, answering phone, filing, photocopying, ordering, etc. Initiates supply orders on unit and monitors for arrival of ordered supplies. Ensures all patient rooms and patient/family areas are stocked with supplies.

Participates in the assessment process of the assigned patients as needed. This may include obtaining vital signs, intake and output and weights. Monitors and observes throughout care for any unusual outcomes or occurrences and reports such observations following chain of command. Ensures dietary orders are completed.

Demonstrates an awareness of and competence in ensuring patient safety, including medical/healthcare error reporting, interdisciplinary collaborative team approach to patient care planning, fall prevention measures on the unit, restraint alternatives, restraint patient checks, infant abduction prevention and response and inpatient suicide precautions. Serve as an advocate for patient safety and patient rights.

Required Job Qualifications Include:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider
  • Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant training program,
  • Certification as a Nurse Assistant required
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
  • Ability to quickly make decisions to report patient condition with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
