Job Description:

The successful candidate will join the External Relations Team (ER) in creating business value by enabling Shell’s purpose and strategy by building trust-based relationships with stakeholders, leveraging our brand and reputation, and by making a positive impact on the local communities and wider societies in which we work.

Other accountabilities include:

  • Providing ER support at the Upstream asset level, supporting the business’ license to operate and grow.

  • Providing support on integrating non-technical risk (NTR) management across the functions.

  • Leading and implementing consultation and participant involvement activities and plans within the Alberta Light Tight Oil (ALTO) business.

  • Lead the interpretation and delivery of public participation and stakeholder engagement requirements for the asset.

  • Contribute effectively to the asset license delivery team to deliver the business plan for ALTO.

  • Provide strategic and technical advice to the license delivery team on consultation and permitting requirements for project plans and design changes.

  • Support the delivery of stakeholder engagement, social performance, and consultation activities to deliver projects and protect Shell’s reputation.

  • Work with other teams to develop mitigation measures when there are concerns raised through the stakeholder engagement and consultation process. This includes working in partnership with Government Relations, Safety/Environment, Wells, Projects, Operations and other related functions.

  • Maintain team visual boards used to coordinate the business.

  • Advise the asset on activities, budgets and timing associated with stakeholder engagement and consultation.

Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada without sponsorship.

  • Minimum 5 years of previous experience in stakeholder engagement or consultation.

  • Bachelor’s degree or related technical diploma required.

  • Strong knowledge of licensing requirements/regulatory processes for Alberta Oil & Gas developments, as well as experience with Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) submissions.

  • An understanding of broad energy industry issues and stakeholder perspectives.

  • Ability to think strategically, translate business objectives into multi-channel communication plans and secure the trust of senior business leaders.

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including sound writing and speaking skills, and experience in issues management, stakeholder engagement, and the identification/management of non-technical risks and key stakeholder relationships that may impact Shell’s reputation.

  • Strong listening and influencing skills to enlist involvement/support from all levels, inside and outside organization.

  • Capable of interfacing and coordinating with wide variety of groups, inclusive in approach.

  • Proven track record as self-starter, willingness to assume management of complex projects, pay attention to detail and set priorities to meet deadlines.
